You’ve managed an 11 page thread (so far), and still don’t know what ‘cancel culture’ is. You have compared apples to oranges throughout the discussion.

I know exactly what cancel culture is. And all I have seen throughout these 11 pages is people complaining because now people are losing their jobs for saying the N Word online instead of getting away with it like their grandfathers did 60 years ago.

Note they weren’t complaining about “cancel culture” when they were cancelling suspected communists, openly gay people, black people, Chinese people, people in mixed race relationships, etc.

No, he knows that it is. He just has no problem with it because it overwhelmingly targets people he doesn't agree with politically.

I mean when Noam fricking Chomsky comes out against something being too extreme, you've not just jumped the shark....you've catapulted the shark into orbit.

protesting is more passive in saying I just personally won’t shop there, but not going after them to destroy their company Someone telling me they won’t use my windshield services is one thing, someone actively campaigning to destroy my company is another

Protesting is not "passive." The Montgomery Bus Boycotts were not just a bunch of individual black people deciding they werent going to use public transit. It was a collective and concerted effort to force an institution to change. The same way cancel culture operates. People on this board have way too much sympathy for others who promote racist and homophobic beliefs and not enough for actual victims of racism and homophobia. As I said before, no one can legally fire someone just for saying they support a presidential candidate. If and when that did happen there will immediately be legal reprecussions. However, espousing racist beliefs on the internet can come with consequences. Freedom of speech only keeps you out of jail. It does not protect you from public backlash.

Continuing to demonstrate your intellectual shortcomings.

So now "our" grandfathers are the problem?

By the way, Einstein, no one's grandfather was online 60 years ago.

It's called reading between the lines. Conservatives have mastered hiding their racist beliefs behind coded language for decades now.

Throughout history people have levied consequences on an individual in order to affect institutional change. It is called deterrence. Discourage future similar behavior by punishing an individual instance of the behavior. It is used in courts, in school, and in protests. When someone posts something racist online and loses their job for it guess what the result is? People are afraid to post racist things online. Once again, no one is going to prison for this. But you may face occupational, educational, and social consequences for things you willingly post online.

As long as you are the one that gets to decide what is objectionable right?

Exactly. You can’t quote someone because nobody said it. To appease your own beliefs, you begin making assumptions about other people.

Furthermore, so what if someone is racist? Does Joe Dirt in the hills of Appalachia not liking blacks bother you?
