It's almost as if cancel culture only applies to certain ideologies, while other ones get a free pass for the same transgressions. How strange.

Very strange indeed

Well it seems like a common grievance in this thread is that a fair amount of people share racist and homophobjc sentiments in their private messaging and people on this board are appalled by the degree of social consequences (I distinguish "social consequences" because no one has ever or will ever face jail time for insensitive beliefs) such people face for posting said racist or homophobic sentiments.

The cancel culture has deemed so many things racist and homophobic today it’s virtually impossible NOT to offend people. Now people are using today’s standards to judge what people did 10 years ago.

Look at the Boeing exec recently that got fired for an article he wrote in the late 80’s where he discussed the logistical issues associated with women serving as frontline combat roles. It wasn’t sexist, it wasn’t derogatory, but he was fired because it was brought back up and by today’s standards, where he doesn’t falsely claim complete physical equality and competency between men and women, he was forced to resign.

So you have moved away from cancel culture/racism argument cuz you lost that and now we gonna go to Covid now?

I haven't "moved away" from anything. I'm just answering the questions that I see. And I haven't "lost" any argument. I acknowledge that we aren't going to change each others' minds but I wanted to see if someone could adequately explain how cancel culture is different from regular protesting and no one has been able to do so. Complaining about how cancel culture punishes an individual and how people shouldn't get punished for posting racist shite online isn't a persuasive argument.

Did you seriously just pull numbers out of your arse for this, because the CDC disagrees with these statistics.

Once again, the standard of today is not different from 2010. Racism was known as bad then and it is still known as bad. And it is perfectly easy not to offend people if you actually give a frick to listen to what they are saying.

Keep telling yourself that.

You have been told by many posters but you don't want to accept what you were told.

You have limited intellectual ability and put it on full display here.

So you agree that saying Trump is a great president is enough to get someone fired because that is what has happened. People say that is racist.

1) He would not agree to stop kneeling
2) He started and popularized the kneeling movement in the NFL and has been the face attached to the whole ordeal.

After all that, he was STILL offered tryouts which he purposefully sabotaged.

So, his fault. Not blacklisted.

Objectionable beliefs like we should have strong control of who comes into this country, that your skin color doesn’t matter but rather your character matters, that men are men and women are women and they are different? These objectionable beliefs? Because all of these beliefs have Twitter mobs going after people and harassing their employers and family’s

did you read the letter I posted on page 8?

Here, I'll re-link it for you.

Open Letter Regarding Cancel Culture

Go ahead and try to forget everything said in this thread up until now. I want you to respond to this letter specifically. Not doing so will confirm your troll status.

Yes, it has. Racism is and has always been bad. The problem is what is deemed "racist" has changed and it constantly changes depending on who is interpreting what is or isn't racist.

That's not the CDC. That's business insider with a chart they created saying it's from the CDC, yet with no link to the actual data for the chart. How odd.

Try again.

Cancelling and boycotting are not the same thing.

Explain how they are different.

OK.....I'll assume you are this stupid:

A boycott is a call on individuals or organizations to refuse to patronize a commercial business as long as it engages in some objectionable practice.
The goal is not to drive the company out of business, it is to cease the objectionable practice. Once the objectionable practice ceases, the boycott is called off.

Cancel culture is a call on organizations to terminate the financial sustenance (e.g., fire employees) or means of communication (facebook, twitter, etc) of individuals who have done something they cancel mob deems objectionable. The intention is not to return to favor by stopping the objectionable thing, it is to permanently punish and shun the transgressor.

You’ve managed an 11 page thread (so far), and still don’t know what ‘cancel culture’ is. You have compared apples to oranges throughout the discussion.
