Why do media members act like someone died when a coworker takes a new job?

I've seen this twice in a week. First, with an OT favorite Jamele Hill and then tonight with some guy I've never even heard of. All they did was accept positions with another media outlet, and their coworkers write eulogies about them. It's quite odd in my opinion.

Members of the media hold themselves out as some gods like people really care what they have to say.

If you don't consume mass media, you won't even notice.

Well, when I enjoy working with someone and they leave, I have to admit that I am sometimes a little sad.

Because as a group, journalists are the most self-important people on the planet

If you don’t care then don’t click the thread. OP asked why media people are dramatic about a coworker leaving. OP didn’t ask if you cared.

This. If theres not a game on, I'm not watching that shite anyways. ESPN damn near destroyed themselves with that liberal push they made with "the 6" and those other trash shows.

I came home one day and just wanted to watch some Sportscenter. Turned it on and it was Ice Cube playing dominos and then they were talking about the black race in society.

I turned it to ESPN not CNN.

Because they are extraordinarily self absorbed douche bags.

No thanks.

OP has a white knight. That's cute.

As a general rule I don't, but I follow many sports personalities on Twitter to get updates, scores, etc, and many of them felt compelled to right an exposé on Jemele Hill like she met an untimely death when she really just got a new job.

I always laugh when a member of the media gets slighted. Whether it’s CNN in the White House briefing, or Maria Taylor interviewing Saban. After it happens they ALL run to twitter to defend their profession.

And they wonder why they aren't taken seriously.

Your local news team are still stuck in the bygone days where they believe that everyone watches them in the morning and the evening, therefore becoming a familiar face in your home and in some long-term cases, and part of the local culture. Therefore, when someone leaves, they think everyone, including the viewers, will have a case of the sads.

The days of Ron Burgandy as we know them are long gone. No one gives a shite about local news channels anymore unless they are over 50. Well, maybe the weather if something is cooking...

It's pretty accurate. They basically give a send off funeral style.

Teachers can be bad but I guess I don't follow many teachers on social media. I'll still stick with journalists being worse.
