Ok. The truth is that there was a study published several years ago that shows a 2.4 year decrease in US life expectancy due to gun violence.

Will not really affect 57.8% of the population much.

Once in a while I go to Trader Joe’s. For some reason, I thought the food was healthier, as well. It isn’t. I read some labels. Palm oil and other ingredients in a lot of stuff. A lady next to me was also reading labels and tossing stuff back, grumbling. Can’t escape it unless from scratch. Sad what the fda allows in our food.

Our food ingredients certainly have something to do with it but simply we burn less calories. When I went to South Korea or the UK for work (both countries with high carb diets with lots of preservatives) I had to walk an average of 2 more miles a day due to the lack of parking and its urban design.

New Zealand obesity is 31%. Yet their life expectancy is stil 82 years and they have long healthcare wait times too

Yes, we are fat with poor diets, but that clearly isn’t the reason

How much of this is due to high “death by misadventure” stats to begin with?

There are some groups who have massive percentages dying off between about 12 and 40, which skew totals very low for entire demographics because that is between 1/7 to 1/2 of the life expectancy of the population.

The 10 leading causes of death in 2021 were largely unchanged from 2020, except chronic liver disease and cirrhosis became the 9th leading cause of death in 2021 while influenza and pneumonia dropped from the list of 10 leading causes. Heart disease remained the leading cause of death in the United States, followed by cancer and COVID-19.

A second report released today, “Drug Overdose Deaths in the United States, 2001-2021,” showed that overdose deaths, which account for more than a third of all accidental deaths in the United States, have risen five-fold over the past two decades.

Greater emphasis on prevention instead of treatment in countries with socialized medicine. In those countries people may wait 9 months, or more, for something non-emergent. So, yes, they’re probably healthier societies from this perspective.

Most of the industrialized world has shorter wait times for all health care services than the United States. That number only reflects the # of people with the ability to PAY for health care. The high number of under and uninsured Americans, which does not exist anywhere else in the industrialized world, skews wait times in the US where it does not in the rest of the world...if one person never receives the health care they need because they do not have insurance the wait time in the US is infinite...we can only calculate wait times for those who eventually get care. More people on other industrialized nations have access to health care, per capita, than we do in the US. It also costs less in those nations because everyone is paying, not just the insured.

This is 100% wrong. Anyone in America can walk into the ER just for the common cold and be seen the same day and never pay a single cent for their care. . It’s guaranteed. No other country has close to that short of wait times. It’s a liberal fallacy
