The same reason you want to frick a girl who is in shape v. a whale. One just is more visually appealing.

I have a North Texas Prairie yard. I have native Buffalo grass lawn with wildflowers and other small native grasses (side oats gramma, the state grass of texas). I don't stress over weeds as they blend in since my lawn isn't a mono culture. I never water it and mow it once a month this time of year and once it gets into July with 109 degrees and no rain, I don't have to mow.

I mow my yard a lot but I don't have neighbors cuz I live out in the country so for me it's purely functional. Tall grasses hard to walk in and move around in. When kids come over it's easier for them to run and play and kick balls along Short Grass

There are numerous beneficial scientific and societal purposes for having a healthy greenspace.

Sequestering carbon, producing oxygen, cooling temperatures, reduced soil erosion. All would be scientific.

People view greenspace as safer than a run down shanty town full of decrepit buildings.

I wouldn't buy a house with a weed infested, thin lawn.

Sorry, but that looks like a run down tenement. I'm sure it's nice inside though.

I live in town but I also live in southeast Louisiana so snakes and rats would be a good possibility if I didn’t keep it up, plus it’s self respect and generally giving a shite about what you have.

Well for one reason the vast majority are required to maintain their yards by HOAs or parish/counties

For another reason it reflects on you as a person. Same reason people clean and vacuum the house, make the bed, put things in order, put decor on the walls. Same reason why people buy nice cars or clothes. Psychologically speaking it is a pretty accurate indicator

What you put out in the world is a visible reflection of who you are as a person

Even if he does that wouldn't change the fact that your yard looks like shite.

?I currently do live in the 'burbs and that weak attempt at shaming doesn't work as its the insult of a whiny adolescent. Regardless, I lived in the heart of a city for 30 years and lawns like that were only seen in the projects. I think I understand what you're going for, but you need more than a small lawn to pull it off. 10,000 sqft and it might work. As I said, I suspect the inside is nice despite the outward appearance.

Naw, it works but I know the look isn't for most people. My neighbor has a perfectly manicured lawn but he is retired and spends 8 hours a day out there.

Naw, the inside looks like shite, just ask my wife.

I wouldn't mind the look on a larger scale.
