We hunt them in Florida as well dude. It’s funny how this board completely disregards the literal MILLION or so straight up baws that the live in Florida.

gator deaths last 50 years

29 in Fla
2 in S Carolina
1 in Tx
1 in Georgia
0 in Louisiana

Fla only has ~ 5x more people than Louisiana. People in La get don't mess w big/ aggressive gators. They don't call wildlife and fisheries, or the police. They kill them. People in Louisiana are in water w/ gators all the time. Swimming, skiing, crawfishing, fishing, hunting, etc. If there is a gator that's a concern it will be killed. Gators learn to stay away.

In other places, there are too many people who will support the gators "right" to be in the water, even if it is a popular place for people to be in the water.

Its not the BAWS that's the proplem, but the millions of PETA types who get in yalls way.

I just don’t see an abundance of that man. Over 8k gators were hunted in Florida in 2018. You may have a PETA type from Manhattan that lives in a gated community in palm beach gardens who sees a baby gator on one of the man made lakes in their development...but in all but a handful of counties some Florida man is gonna go out and kill the gator just like in Louisiana. Once you get a few miles inland it’s like a completely different state.

Do yall have bodies of water that are nearly empty of large gators because people play in the water?
I really don't know.

I do know plenty of people in La who have camps on bayous and lakes. Generally they try to get rid of the gators in the area. If someone is caught feeding one (like my mother in law) they will catch hell.

I don’t see why you wouldn’t carry a firearm in case the gator became a threat.

chased you? ive been kayaking in florida, couldve been me

Chased me. It was a large female that was obviously guarding a nest on a spit of land off a canal. I was probably 10 yards away when I spotted her under a bridge. I had been fishing right around the corner for 15 minutes. When I paddled past her, she turned directly toward me and started rapidly swimming toward me. I have never paddled so fast in my life. Scared the crap out of me. I have not been back to that area since.

For the sake of the Yankee Snowbirds, Florida should post a bunch of signs: Please do not feed YOURSELF to the wildlife.
