I work in transportation, and yeah.. people just do not want to work today even for good pay.
Us, like airlines are having to cancel routes for the year. Its a job that anyone can get to 100k, think its the drug testing thats the issue.

Most everything requiring customer service and being on a schedule sucks these days.
Airlines know that people have short memories when it comes to bad experiences because at the end of the day, most customers just care about finding the best price. Southwest stranded thousands of people for days during the holidays and it’s a distant memory for most people.

The main problem with airlines is they stopped treating their customers like people and started treating them like cattle.

People take the industry for granted.
Let’s put 300 people 30K ft up in the air in a metal tube going 500mph and have a 0% failure rate….oh, and make sure it’s always on time and I only want to pay $300 round trip.
It’s ludicrous how advanced aviation has gotten yet how the passengers are so unforgiving.
I used to travel a ton for work and I always had a mindset of “my job is to get here on time and theirs is to make sure I get there safely”

Part of the problem is people want everything cheap, so this is the result.
In not wealthy by any stretch, but I rather take less trips and only fly business / first for anything over ~2 hours. Economy on most flights is unbearable to me. Primarily due to the people more than the accommodations to be honest.
Cheap ain’t good and good ain’t cheap.

I'll only get on a plane if drive is more than 15 hours
yeah because being in the highway and stuck in traffic around the cities is better than flying? LOL
6 hours is my cutoff for driving Vs flying.
And I will never drive from New Orleans to Houston again. Always fly

Short answer: Airline Deregulation Act of 1978. It got more people flying, less luxury airlines, etc.
So now instead of wearing suits on 747's and enjoying that sweet doubledecker lounge they used to have, you can fly on Spirit Airlines and get punched in the face at the gate by some animal.

Had a flight this week stop allowing carry ons after 60 bags. The flight was half boarded when they made the announcement and everyone had to check a bag after that. I was very confused. Especially once I boarded to see the overhead luggage 60% full.

I’m sure your secretary misses you asking what color her panties are while chowing down on your Salisbury steak and red wine to wash it down.

Airports and flights have sucked since 9/11 and Covid was the final straw. Passengers pay a premium and are put dead last in priority, convenience, and comfort.

Depends on the airline but all indications are that the vouchers tend to be worth as much as Confederate money due to restriction on when you have to use them by and how much you can use on a single flight IIRC.

Why in the hell are y’all piling on 777? He is just trying to explain the current system, aircraft and weather limitations that go into decision making before takeoff. If you are on that plane and, God Forbid, lose an engine, you will be damn glad he is making the proper decisions on your behalf. Jeez

Saw this happen in Phoenix in 2016 when it got to about 121 degrees. Eventually they couldn’t fly the CRJ’s in there for a few days.
Heat limits the capacity of some of those smaller jets.

Key West has a short arse runway, and it’s hot as frick. The hotter it is, the more your airplane says “frick you” when you tell it to fly. The heavier your airplane is - the same effect. Combining those two things = a double frick you. Not typically an issue getting in, but almost always an issue getting out.

Just got back from Hawaii yesterday. Flew American Airlines and it was flawless. Went from New Orleans to Phoenix to Kauai and back through Phoenix to New Orleans. Left 5ish minutes early and arrived 30ish minutes early. Love AA over all the other airlines

The airline knew it was gonna be hot in July and they knew the runway length, before they sold tickets.
Just funny to see what we do and don’t make excuses for.
