Why did “exclusive” become such a big boogeyman word?

People talk about how they want everything to be inclusive nowadays and don’t want to have any exclusive clubs.
Why do they want this at all costs? Isn’t it it good to have exclusive clubs sometimes? This allows us to hold people up to certain standards. It’s good for people have goals to strive for and to work to better themselves and become a member of the elite of society. They should not be shamed for doing so.
Expecting to be automatically included in everything without proving that we are worthy of being in that group leads to laziness, a sense of entitlement, and an “everyone gets a trophy” mentality.

Insecurity is another boogeyman word.
Every time someone tries to be assertive and let their opinions be known, everyone starts calling him insecure and trying to shout him down.
