It's so... um, directional and bland. I'm sure it's a nice place to live, but.

Why do you wear a giant dog head and have a voice like an 8 year old altar boy?

According to Wikipedia, that was the nickname of the George Wailes plantation.

It would make a hell of a lot more sense for it to be called Greenwell Springs. They essentially named the city after the high school.

Because the Godfather-Kingfish wanted it named "Central" after the local high school. Would have made more sense to name in Greenwell Springs since it already had a zip code. Post office won't issue Central a zip code so they look like idiots and collecting taxes is a nightmare. Addresses range from Baton Rouge, Baker, Zachary, and Greenwell Springs.

that's just what they always called that amorphous white flight area, to the north and east of BR proper, before it was a town.

Who knows? this is the same group of people who don't want to teach evolution in school.

I was on a construction project in Central once, you can imagine the confusion this caused when giving directions. I would tell them Central, La, I would get in response, "oh you're in Alexandria? I thought you were in East Baton Rouge?" To which I would reply, "No, I'm in East Baton Rouge Parish in the city of Central." To which that response would be, "well, where's that?" after explaining all of this and that they are a new city, I would always get, "why'd they call themselves central? that's pretty stupid, they aren't the central of anything."
