Why can't a cop be a member of a "hate group"

It is not illegal to be in the Klan, Black Panthers, or any other hate group. It is illegal to do some of the things they do.
If you are in the group because of your beliefs but not doing the illegal shite, that's your God given, Constitutional Right.
How can cops be fired for being in these groups?
There is a cop under investigation right now in Plaquemine Parish for being in some kind of anti-gay group.

So, not a member?

Because if you're a cop and you hate a certain race of people, that's kind of a conflict of interest.
Isn't this how people end up getting shot?

Because they're sworn to defend all citizens, including your idiot arse.

I give the SPLC about as much credence as a bum shouting on the street. Their bias is palpable.

I would think the obvious question is you couldn't trust the judgment of someone who belonged to such a group
Cops are already an untrustworthy lot without intentionally hiring a bunch of bigots

So you are telling me that a guy that believes in separatism cannot protect another race from a crime?
BTW, I'm not defending this, I'm simply asking a question. It does seem unconstitutional.

I mean its not "illegal". But I'm pretty sure most departments have some sort of policy against it so as not to have to deal with the legal ramifications when an officer has a complaint filed against them from a person that said group has issues with. It would be a massive headache to the department from a legal and PR standpoint. If you dont understand that, I dont know what to tell you.
There are plenty of things that aren't illegal to do but will get you fired if your employer finds out about because it is against their policies.

yes, and cops don't protect people from crime.

This. And it's not like it's just police departments. Most employers are going to have a problem with an employee openly associating with anything that could be construed (whether accurately or not)as a hate group.

To protect and serve the public, which is made up of all the people hate groups hate. If you are apart of a hate group and you agree with their morals and values then there will be some sort of bias when doing your job. No other way around it. Would you want a female surgeon doing surgery on you if she genuinely hates men?

That's one of the reasons that I quit Facebook. I just don't want to be scrutinized by my employer or a potential employer because I liked a distasteful meme or something like that. I deleted mine during the last presidential election.

Yep.
I just use it as an address book and occasionally like a baby picture.
As far as the OP's question, cops are the enforcement arm of the government. You can't afford to have people in that position who are openly prejudiced against any particular group.

I think the real concern is what groups get classified as "hate groups". Some White Aryan Nation Brotherhood etc sure. But, if we listen to the SPLC etc soon traditional Conservative Groups could end up labeled "hate groups".

As a white man, I would prefer that a black cop who pulls me over is not a Black Panthers. And I can't speak for any black people, but I would imagine they would not be too thrilled if a white cop who pulls them over, isn't a KKK member.

look up the words impartial and objective in the dictionary and it answers that question for you
