But didn’t the proponents say the developer was financing the whole deal?
The developer is building the arena up front on their own dime.

Now we see there’s a tax. A tax the voters didn’t pass. A tax you pay when you buy a beer at the Box or a hot dog at TS.
Right, they later stated a tax on lsu fans spending money around lsu will be used to essentially pay the developer back for the arena that lsu fans will be using.
The horror. How is this worse than our state taxes going to pay for every athletic department in the state that most voters don’t care about at all? At least this is only impacting the same group of people that will utilize the facility.

The arena that we are getting tax free!!!
It’s a big lie.

Maybe plans changed. Who cares?
Look no further than Bass Pro in Denham. There was a huge legal battle over that Economic Development District. Now look at that area and how built up it is. Generating huge tax revenue for the city/parish when before it was just vacant land.
I’ll never understand the fight against these districts when you don’t have to pay the tax if you don’t want to. Unlike everything else like local schools that I don’t utilize or parks I never go to yet I’m still paying for.

There was this large silo on the pasture side and if you could clear it with your shot then you were in great position for a birdie.
That’s what was turned into the clubhouse when the whole course moved across Nicholson

Because when the C-P Council voted on the tax district people were told that the tax revenues would go to enhance the area around LSU, not go to a private developer.
You call it a change in plans, I call it a bait and switch.

This whole set up seems shady especially the developers getting the revenue and the added sales tax.
So LSU is giving the land over for free? Sounds dumb. Let them buy it if they want it.

Golf doesn’t seem to be that big in Baton Rouge.
Where I live, there are 2 muni courses and a 9 hole. That’s it. And my city isn’t tiny. There’s a private course that is daily fee also. Two country clubs have gone under in the last 15 years or so.
When I was a student in BR, I’d play LSU course, City Park, and Webb often. You also had Clark, Howell, Dumas, and Santa Maria that were open. I don’t remember if Sherwood Forest CC was still open, but couldn’t the public play there as well?

Who is going to develop the area around LSU? Mike?
Oh that's right, private developers.

They are taking the initial risk. Not LSU. Obviously they want assurances (hence the tax revenue).
LSU isn’t giving them the land. It’ll revert back to LSU in 30 years (according to the reporting of the deal).

Nobody plays it. Doesn't really make a whole lot of fiscal sense to keep a golf course on valuable land that maybe a dozen people a day play at?
There's a city course and a private course that are both less than 4 miles away.

Your expectation of good greens must be pretty low. Play Belle Terre and then go back to Webb.

15k rounds per year. And that’s with the submarining of the course conditions.

I grew up next to Webb..great days in BR. $3.00 a month all you could play for kids during the summer I could walk there to #3.

I went to LSU in the 80s. At the time, the front nine of the golf course was right across from CEBA/Patrick Taylor Hall. The thing I remember most about the course was that students only had to pay $1 to play it. As a result, I played it often.
