Not exactly. Hyundai owns about 34% of Kia and they do develop and share chassis as well as other sub-systems. The Hyundai/Kia relationship is very complex and Hyundai is considered to own Kia but they really aren't the same entity.

My saying that they are the same company is over simplifying, but each company owns an ownership in each other.
A friend of mine in the auto body business told me that even some of the support structure on their cars are exactly the same parts from one brand to the other.

Wen you order a part for KIA and it delivers to your house and on one side of the box it has the KIA logo and on the other side of the box it has the Hyundai logo, I would venture to say the companies have a shared design and manufacturing relationship.

Audi and VW do this as well, many VW parts also have the Audi rings.

I was just clarifying that Kia is not a wholly owned subsidiary like Acura, Infiniti and Lexus. They share R&D and, many parts including chassis now but they are also carving out different niches. Kia will have the more performance oriented line and Hyundai/Genesis will be more luxury oriented. They are seeking to cut out the overlap previously.

Synthetic oil doesn't lose viscosity. While dini oil gets thicker with heat and age.
So in theory 20,000 mile synth oil gives the same metal on metal protection.
The issue is the additives. The additives only last so long. Modern engines rely on these.

Yeah a lot of the engines are the same and the Hyundai logo is on a lot of kia parts.
My brother's elentra and neighbor's Spectra were the same car, except for body.

I haven't had a car issue in the past 7 years or so other than routine maintenance. Vehicles today are great compared to 20 or more years ago.
