I’m shocked to see the liberals show up here and pretend everyone else is racist. Liberals who undoubtedly do not send their kids to these miserable schools they tout.

Money, Politics and Race! That should about sum it up.
We like living close to work and not sitting in traffic every day. We are also zoned for F rated Tara High School so we send ours to private.

And what is it that happened that made these public schools suck?
East Baton Rouge's problems were caused by a federal judge.

Because I don’t want my kids to go to school with black or white or Mexican trash kids that don’t know how to act or would be a bad influence on my kid.
I expect my kids to act a certain way and pay attention in school and not be distracted by the piece of shite kids that don’t want to be at school because their piece of shite parents don’t care.
That the answer you’re looking for? How super racist am I for not liking certain demographics?

Tara used to be a very good school. Broadmoor and Lee, too. I think Tara now takes up most of the old Lee High district, which is one of the most affluent in the state.

There arent many outside the BR-NOLA region. You just read a lot about it on here because thats where most of the posters are from.

Because they don’t want little Johnny to have to interact with black people so they spend thousands each year to send him to a school blacks can’t afford

I had lots of coaches in high school that went to Tara or McKinkey back in the 70s and 80s, and they would talk about how good they were at football and how big of games Tara and Broadmoor were back in those days. Can’t really picture that today
You shoulda been around for the Lee High invitational...that tourney was bigger than the state championship

Bonnabel had a student who won something like the National Merit award.
It must have been a big deal for them, because they had that girl's senior picture on the side of a building. It was huge. You could see it from the interstate.
I guess no one else at Bonnabel was able to surpass that award, because that poor girl's picture was plastered on the side of that gym for 6 years.

Over/under 4 bans if people really give honest answers and opinions.

I was just answering the question. I didn't give my opinion on the matter.

Look, school performance is based on how well the kids do on standardized test.
Kids that have parents that are together and care about their children's education do better by a very wide margin.
It has nothing to do with the amount of money a school has at its disposal or the quality of the teachers. Increasing those two has never and will never make public schools "better".
The breakdown of the family unit is the elephant in the room that can't be discussed publicly. As single parenting and government dependence goes up grades go down. It just so happens that in Louisiana and much of the south the black community has been hit the hardest by this metric.
Not a single person I know that went to public school in Evangeline Parish sends their kids to one. My wife went to one and was miserable. Obviously, my kids don't go to one.
My wife also quit teaching at them after being sexually assaulted by a 7th grader. Honestly, she wanted to stay but was scared after that.

Read about segregation academies.
In short, private schools could prohibit attendance based on race until 1976.
List of Louisiana segregation academies from above link:
Bowling Green School
Caddo Community School
Claiborne Academy
False River Academy
Glenbrook School
Grawood Christian School
Guy Beuche
LeJeune Academy
Livonia Academy
River Oaks School
Old River Academy
West End Academy
Prytania Private School
Tenth Ward Private School

I went to one of them from Prek through the 10th grade.

Louisiana had a parochial, Catholic, school system long before there were public schools, so that may be part of the reason. The other part is the public schools in most parishes really suck. EBR went from some of the best public schools in the country to some of the worst with just the stroke of a (judicial) pen, so that's that.
If you dont mind, I can take it a step further.
The other issue is that many of these children come from poor family situations. There is no guardian or parent that enforces rules. So these kids come into the classroom with poor preparation and lack of discipline.
Now I know the typical response is to go for the fatherless home Argument. I fully acknowledge it as a problem. However, the truth is that it is a weak parenting that creates these problems.
I know homes with fathers where the children misbehave, end up in jail, and everything associated with single mothers. There are good women who become single mothers by no fault of their own (as in death of the father/abandonment by the father, etc.)
I think it's that parents who love their kids over themselves are more likely to stay in a marriage. Ergo, they are more likely to personally be involved. Likewise, adults too young or naive to be married probably shouldn't be having kids in the first place. They are more likely to divorce and leave a family.
Now as for the schools:
I think a private/ public school system solves the problem at a surface level.
The reality that nobody wants to face is that it inevitably leads to different world views. If you only go to private schools and never interact with the real world then it can lead to lacking coping skills in the real world.
A few weeks ago there was a thread asking to "bring back bullying". The Argument was that bullying increases personal growth by teaching kids to deal with problems. But this is contradictory to private schools : the entire point of them to separate your kids from that sort of behavior.
