That’s because pretty much every major city is run by Muslims. Hell, their next prime minister will probably be Muslim. English are too politically correct to admit their country is being taken over by Muslims. They don’t want to speak out against it and be called racist. So they just bend over and take it.

They punched themselves out in two world wars.
OTOH while they don't own the real estate any more, they still exert tremendous influence in much of the world. More than we do in some places. Empires are virtual instead of physical now, and they play that game as Well as anybody.
A better question would be what happened to Spain. They went to to toe with Britain for centuries and frittered it all away. Half the world speaks their language but they're not even a top tier European power.
