Cultural Primitivism. Where once we aspired to true, measurable human progress, now we happily lower the bar and call it progress. Tattoos are just one small but visible example. It's the same as elevating obesity to the same level as physical fitness or the shite on the radio to the incredible stuff indy artists are doing in complete anonymity. We are a lowest common denominator culture.

I told my teenagers to look at the tattoo on any older person and remember that no matter how cute today, theirs would look similarly nasty in 20 years. No tattoos so far…

I was talking to a guy who had an incomplete sleeve tat on one of his arms. He told me he was planning to finish it but would have to finance it.

I see someone with obviously random placements and associate them as being impulsive, unorganized, and generally trashy.

we're all heading the same place, man. Old and wrinkly and nasty is right around the corner, whether there is ink on that skin or not.

Quite right. No need to make matters worse, IMO.

We are not alone here. I remember watching the NBA growing up and can't remember one tattoo. Let's just say there is a culture that has gone tattoo crazy also.

no that's an not answer ....
destorying your looks with ink isn't a positive decision, it degrades your body and for some, it makes them unemployable.

doing what you want isn't psychology....psychology is gettign to the "why" would you do that to yourself?
