I perused the article after seeing that the second sentence was a laughably wrong statement easily disputed by the hyperlink it included, but did it include stats on patriotism to back the claim? And if so, did the author interpret them correctly?

My parents came from India where only 3% of the population makes more than the equivalent of $30,000 per year. Some would just rather see the glass half empty here.

Let's be honest, 95% of the population couldn't handle and maintain that level of wealth and would piss it away. Regardless, most people don't want the workload that comes with it either, constant meetings and playing politician. We'd rather BBQ on the weekends and enjoy the relative low stress.
At the end of the day we all die, just enjoy what you have and be thankful for it.

Not sure about the poor, but working class and lower middle class would rather identify with the upper class and upper middle class rather than identifying with the lower class. It's aspirational.
Plus, it's just human nature. People want to have someone to look down on and for most people there is always someone poorer than you.

Everyone is pissed off about not having enough money but the rich people that have all the money have somehow convinced a lot of the middle class to be mad at the people that don't have anything for their lack of money. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe I read that around 80 people or so have half of all the money in this country.

Some of you guys never think poor whites are on the tit. All it takes is to admit it but it's so rare here. The numbers in rural counties or parishes is so evident
. Maybe that's why they fly the flag. It's the least they can do.
