Why are people so anti things like self checkout or kiosk ordering?

Seems like mostly old people but some young/middle aged people with usually a statement like “I don’t work here, you do the work” or something dumb like that. Or like “well if I accidentally steal something that’s your problem.” No you dumbass, don’t be trash.

I love self service. I can get in and get out faster than some min wage person scanning my stuff. Plus it potentially saves the store money that is reflected in lower prices. Look at Aldi, nobody works there, cheap AF.

ETA example: I saw an old coworker, older gent, posted on Facebook how it’s a shame that he waited at the register at McDonald’s for 15 min for someone to serve him because he refused to use the kiosk. I mean, come on.

I have no problem with self checkouts and kiosk ordering. The less I have to deal with nimrods the better.
Ordering stuff with an app and just going to pick it up is even better

I don't frequent McDonalds anymore, but the one or two times I do when we are travelling with kids, the kiosk is the only way to get the order right. It's improved their accuracy by 80%

Surprised I'm not prompted for a tip when I'm done TBH.

I love it. The fewer people I have to deal with the better

I prefer self checkout but it still irks me that they can get away with having only 1 live register open. It helps me sure, but it helps them more. That pisses me off.

They were pretty rough in their early days and stores have a habit of not having near enough for demand at times when people like to go. Watching someone take their sweet time or act like it's their first time seeing technology at a self-checkout when there's a line of 20 people is infuriating.

Checkout lanes used to move at a roughly predictable speed when they were staffed. Now it can be a shitshow. But I agree they are amazing when open.

I don’t know anyone who thinks that. I assume most people are more than happy to avoid interacting with your typical low wage worker.

I think this is the point that the OP is making. I try not to worry about how others benefit. Good for them. I’m glad I’ve got the option to check out my two items and get the hell out asap.

Why don't you just ask some older people why they like certain things. Might give you some appreciation for the position they're in.

I don’t know but I prefer the self check out because it’s gets me in and out quicker and I don’t have to make small talk.

I fricking love self checkout especially if I am going in to pick up just a few things. Like you say, in and out.

But overall wouldn't this be a bad thing? Less jobs.. But then again some places have trouble finding workers so there is that side of it. But that would be an easier flow than going to a packed store with two registers open while the slow arse cashier don't give a frick as she takes her sweet arse time.

I think a lot of it is tied to nostalgia. It’s not the way it was when they grew up.

People don’t like change. They hide it under the disguise of righteousness for the fellow man (eg loss of jobs). There’s some truth to it, but not to the level they tend to proclaim.

I much prefer to order on an app or a kiosk or use self-checkout.

The best is at Sam's. You can scan everything in the app as you put it in your cart and just show the receipt at the end

Tell me more about all these low prices you're seeing.

I'm surprised they didn't already have it. Don't go to Costco since Sam's is close to the house but Costco seems like the leader for warehouse club stores

They don't as far as I know. Checking out at Costco is a HUGE clusterfrick.
