I love how Facebook poses these stupid problems as if this is how you tell if you’re a math whiz or not

Well basic rules for arithmetic is:
a(b+c)=ab + ac
a(b/c)= ab/c
So 8/2(2+2)=
2(2) + 2(2)= 4 + 4= 8
So it would be 8/8=
a(b+c)=ab + ac
a(b/c)= ab/c
So 8/2(2+2)=
2(2) + 2(2)= 4 + 4= 8
So it would be 8/8=

You're conveniently leaving out that the division is not written with /, but rather ÷, which according to some sources has the connotation of implicitly applying parentheses to everything on both sides of the symbol. Thus it becomes (8)/(2(2+2)) which is unequivocally 1 no matter your order of operations.
As you wrote it, answer is 16 for normal people.

Its 16.
8/2(2x2)
Parenthesis first
8/2x4
division next
8/2=4
Multiply next
4x4=16

It's a misleading equation. It wouldn't be a real equation. It would be invalid on a test or the teacher's just a dick. If you came up with this equation in a real world with these numbers actually representing something tangible, you would know through basic math logic what order to solve in

OweO once again proving he’s a shitty poster and an idiot.

Evidently you can do it two ways. But if it was a test and written out like I posted the correct answer would be 1...

If it was a test I would be in the teacher's ear immediately to tell her about her bullshite equation

A lot of things have probably changed while you been locked up.
Be honest, no one will say anything. Are you prison gay?

So what's the answer??

The problem is 8/2(2+2)=?
The answer is 16 as many have said. These questions get posed mostly by people that don't understand math or want to confuse people with math skills they already lack.
8/2 takes precedence. 4 is your starting number.
(2+2) is the next == 4 which is now a multiplier.
4 starting x 4 multiplier = 16.
Again, as others have stated, a few more qualifiers change the end value. The intention is to be confusing here.
Write it as 8/(2(2+2)) and == 1

Nothing wrong with the equation. Every mathematician in the world would tell you the answer is 16 if the problem is written like the OP.
However, could it be written where dumb people aren't confused? Yes.

Math is entirely abstract.
Math is indeed abstract.

As soon as I looked at it, I saw 1 because this was how I had it pictured in my mind.

Order of operations problems are the arithmetic version of spelling problems.
I never get these correct and it doesn't matter because I passed 7th grade.
