They tend to use light-skinned black actors in the couples. I guess that is less triggering.
Meanwhile, I know a black guy who is an actor and is excellent at portraying burglars, robbers, and other scary criminals. Dude cannot get a job. They always hire a vanilla white guy for those roles.

Two reasons:
1) The main one: it broadens the appeal of the product (get to represent two different demographics for the price of one)
2) Once you get out of the South you’ll notice that interracial relationships are much more common IRL than you think (especially in major metro areas on the West Coast, Northeast, Toronto, etc...)

Nope. It’s wayyyyy more common in the south than in New England. I lived in Connecticut for 4 years and maybe saw 10 interracial couples involving white women.

There's really not a ton of blacks in New England 
I have dated a couple of black women and you'd be blown away how many times we'd be stared at during dates.

I'm sure someone has already said, but it's social engineering...make it the norm. Young children will grow up thinking it's normal. They don't care if they piss you off...they are after your children and grand children.

Because, from a marketing standpoint, it's a good way to appeal to a lot more people. It's not just about a white and black person being together, it can relate to people from two other races that are in relationships.
If you see a commercial that has nothing but black people in it and they are playing music you don't listen to... Would you agree that your first thought is "that is likely something that will not appeal to me?"
Some products are not trying to target a specific group so having an interracial couple is a good market strategy. I honestly never even thought about it until people on this point started talking about it. Why is it a big deal?
