Is there a Chinese Restaurant Association

Actually there is. I watched an interesting documentary a few years back that touched on this. At one point in time thanks to the Chinese exclusion act, the Chinese in this country were barred from all businesses except laundry and restaurants. The Chinese in turn essentially divided up the country into business territories and thus control the locations of all Chinese restaurants. They fund them, and train owners how to operate the business. They are also sophisticated enough to adapt traditional Chinese dishes to the local pallet.

So to answer the question as to why they all remain closed to dine in, it’s probably because the association to which they all belong has taken that position

No, not buffet (though I haven’t checked on those.) The regular sit down restaurant with a waitress/menu kind.

Five Happiness and China Orchid in New Orleans are open for sit down.

Yeah, I'm leaning fear/cultural issues with covid.

Cuz it's not just NOLA. It's most of Jefferson Parish, too. So there a common denominator in this.

Thanks. I hate Five Happiness, so I never checked. I'll check out China Orchid's hours.

Chinese are germaphobes. My wife’s Chinese, we live two miles from her brother’s family. Before covid we saw them every couple weeks. The last time we saw them in person was January 2020 right when it started.

Asians are still foolishly afraid of covid. The majority of the people that I see still wearing masks are asians and black people. Plus our labor force doesnt want to work, especially in the service industry.

I'm thinking it's mainly Chinese. I know there are a lot of Japanese/Vietnamese restaurants open, and some of these serve traditional chinese-amercian dishes.

5 Happiness has been open for some time for inside dining

But many of the ones in Jefferson Parish are still closed for some reason- it’s killing me that Empress of China and China Doll are still not open for dining and it’s almost 2022

When I was in Baton Rouge in Oct, the Chinese Inn on Nicholson was only doing takeout. They even have a plexiglass wall that separates the staff from outsiders.

China, historically, has been a hotbed for pandemics as well. It makes sense they’d be more cautious by nature of what they’ve experienced there. I think Influenza Type A began there as well.

Because most of the people that eat in those places are messy fatties. I can’t blame them for doing take out only.
