Why are British documentaries sip much better than American

Everything BBC does is fantastic. I can watch almost anything Planet Earth related. But why no decent American nature documentaries? National geographic channel is weak, so is discovery channel. But BBC always has the best footage. Why is that?

You need to watch the American Experience docs on PBS.

American TV is made for the commercial break. Build up drama and leave them hanging. The pace is predictable and monotonous. It doesn't matter what show, if it's on history, discovery, Nat geo, or whatever channel, not matter what subject, they all follow the same pacing and scripting techniques. It's just tiresome.

They are good but getting dumbed down. Nova especially, it was excellent but is starting to adopt some of the elements of reality TV. But I still DVR all of the Nature and Nova shows.
