And our point is that only a certain number of people can get in.
Exactly. And that is just ONE HIGH SCHOOL. What about elementary school and middle school.
A kid should go to horrible elementary and middle schools on the off chance of MAYBE getting on the waitlist for BRMHS?

The system is a piece of shite that can't be fixed by anyone except for those already in it.
You want to fix the system? Convince the terrible aspects of the system to change their ways.

I went to BRMHS also. I also went to the gifted/magnet program in Buchanan, Glasgow, and Sherwood. These schools had many problems, as traditional students were there too. There were fights, drugs, and ect. But there were people in my classes ( most Asian) that would wipe the socks of any private school (CHS) alumni I know. One friend went to Berkeley and is majoring in engineering. Another is in Princeton and is premed. A few are at Harvard and rice.

I have one at BRHMS, one at Sherwood Middle Magnet and one at Westdale Heights Academic Magnet and I'm happy as can be. Much better academically than Parkview Baptist and Ascension , where they were before. Parental involvement is awesome at BRHMS, less so earlier-especially in Middle School. And yes, my house does look like the United Nations most days, and the kids really do buy into that. It gives me hope that The Poverty Pimps and Race Grievance Industry will lose in the long run seeing how simpatico all these kids are.
The trick is getting your FIRST kid in. Once that happens the others are easier. Mrs. Pimp is VERY persuasive when she wants something.

Exactly. Who's bright idea was it to mix magnet with regular kids? Anyone can tell you the whole reason a magnet school thrives is that it's an environment conducive to learning. We had MAYBE one fight a year at SMHS and it was usually over stupid stuff. There was never any racial fighting and everyone mainly got along. I heard as soon as they mixed the kids that was different. More fights and more issues.
At SMHS we all knew the school would go to shite the moment they mixed the kids. My senior year we walked out of class one day to protest the changes. Obviously didn't work

Kind of. Either way it's hard to get in and often takes connections.

I went to brmhs too. There is more of a community and brotherhood atmosphere at Catholic high( and st joes hoes). I knew someone who committed suicide at brhs a few years back.

Same. Private school is merely an option for us when we have a child, not a necessity like it is for BR parents.

I love br because it's home but when we have kids, we don't have to make that decision here. Public schools are great.

Because public schools are bad for children.

BATON ROUGE. MORE MURDERS THAN CHICAGO

Why can't EBR create more magnet schools?
Parental involvement, that's why.
BRHS has been around for a very long time, but it's "magnet" status happened because of a very dedicated group of parents that worked very hard for gifted and talented programs in the late 1970's. They were a very effective local "pressure" group that got opposing School Board members defeated in elections, etc. until they got what they wanted.

I went to st. joes (& no I'm not a hoe) It wasn't the best experience because girls are super catty and bitchy. But I learned a lot about myself and got a great education.
