I have not been watching the numbers that close but there does seem to be a softening of the market. I don't think now is the time to buy though as I expect you would be grabbing a falling knife. It is so hard to predict in this scenario since there is no modern historical data for a time when the supply of new watches was zero with all the manufacturers closed. If you look at 2008 the prices only took a short term dip and started cranking back up by the end of 2009. In the end this is uncharted territory.

I like to wear different watches. I have a Seiko automatic that I have trouble with because I don't wear it every day. I've got a couple of fairly new Seikos (the automatic and a solar diver), an old dress Seiko, an old Elgin, a Citizen diver, a Nixon, and a handful of Timex Expeditions for yard work and working out.
I had a TAG Heuer I received in 2004 for 20 years at a job. I lost it with a bunch of other things, in a move/storage situation in 2010, with a mover who was imprisoned for also being a crack dealer. I wore it to work and when I went out. Wore Timex's when working out.

Squale historically and still makes good watches. I am not a huge fan of the 1545 collection because it apes Rolex so closely, however, at least the GMT you linked to has pencil hands vs Mercedes. Marc Frankel at LIW is good people.

What microbrand diver do you like?
I like my Christopher Ward. Wouldn't mind one with their in-house movement. I want a gmt though

That 16800 is a beauty.
I can answer on Squale - I've held one in my hands and inspected it closely. My brother has the 20 ATMOS Militaire Ceramic - with the sword hands and creamy patina looking lume. He bought it on a whim while his Sub Date was at Rolliworks getting some work done. It is the best Homage watch I've seen personally. He paid 5 bills from an ebay seller - watch originally came from Gnomon watches. Has a workhorse ETA 2824-2, which is time tested movement. The ceramic bezel is very nicely done for a $500 dollar watch. Bracelet is well done and links even have screws for adjustment instead of god-forsaken pin and collar fastners. If I remember correctly, it is a bit thicker than a Submariner, but the case is nevertheless well-proportioned. The Sapphire is slightly domed which harkens back to the acrylic crystal subs and is a nice touch. The brand definitely has some cred, but I am not sure there is a 100% unbroken line from past to present - Obtuse might be able to answer that one.

If you want it certainly don't let my bias stand in the way! I honestly haven't owned or even held enough micro-brands to really have favorites.
If you want a GMT at least give the Glycine Airman a gander. They can be had for less than the Squale and the basic Airman design has been around as long as the Rolex GMT. The original design used a 3 hand movement but the hour hand was a 24 hour hand and with the rotating bezel it could track 2 time zones. The have modern versions of this and 4 handers as well to track 3 times zones, these are based on the ETA 2836 movement. This is a caller GMT not a traveler GMT but those movements aren't available in the under $1k watches.

I think there was a maybe decade long period when they were not producing anything after the Maggi family bought it from Von Buren. It is still a family-owned Italian company with production done in the Jura region of Switzerland. They have more diver cred than the majority of watches in the price range. In the 60s and 70s they made cases for many of the bigger manufacturers and the Maggi family that owns it now was their distributor so they had a connection with the brand long before the purchase.

With you Cotton. The younger me would've said how much of an improvement Luminova/SuperLuminova/Chromalight is over Tritium...the current me likes the creamy patina over the glow.

A newer submariner with a band that looks like this. I barely wear it because I hate watches but I wear my Apple Watch daily when I run to keep track my time then I take it off.

That's a beauty of a 1680 Red. Matte dial is exceptional with the lume patina. Mk III dial??
If you notice, my 16610 has service hands. Some patina, but doesn't match the lume plots. RSC replaced hand set when I had a second hand fall off and I knew no better than to let them replace the whole set (AD handled the whole deal and I don't recall having any say in the matter). I'm lucky it didn't come back with a luminova dial and hands. At least they used Tritium hands.

I was wearing this 16800 at work and was knocking out a bearing race with a hammer and the tritium flaked out of the second hand. Was lucky enough to source a new old stock hand that had aged to about the same color as the other hands. Tritium gets pretty fragile with age. Probably a good idea to have them stabilized. Also a good idea to take them off when using sledgehammers, impact wrenches or jack hammers.
