no more or less petulant than someone saying god saved them. that was kinda the whole point.

So you say you've been to "Hell"...Africa, Central America, etc.

I'm assuming to help others (hence "Hell"). Thank you for your work and kindness, whatever that may be.

What would be your response to someone who was inspired to do similar work because of their faith? They're petulant?

why would god save you and not a 14 year old vietnamese girl rented out to grown men for pennies on the dollar?

why would god save you and not a 8 year old african boy who had his whole family murdered, and is not forced to murder to keep from being killed himself in a child army?

why would god save you only to ignore the millions of children going through that shite every damn day?

Because he works in mysterious ways. Who are we to question god?

i've been to hell... in africa, central america, eastern europe. didn't see god delivering those people from the daily hell that we take for granted and most of us don't even realize is going on.

I've been to Kenya and seen villagers living in huts on dirt floors still praising God for the small blessings they do have(their lives, a shelter, family). Also saw those villagers praise God for the water wells and filtration systems the church I used to go to had donated to them. Saw grown men cry when we presented them with Bibles written in their native languages (for these people...to have your own Bible in your possession is truly a treasure).

These people have sooo little compared to us...yet the faith and love of God they display openly is more than I've seen many here profess.

not necessarily. depends on whether or not it's purely for helping without any expectations of them accepting christ.

in africa i was with a mission group, and people were upset because the people there had their own ideas of what christianity should be based upon their experience. the folks i was with were not trained in how to handle this and were visibly shaken.

they thought it would be an easy sell. come in, build a well, and people decide to listen to your version of christ. well, it doesn't work that way. and when folks have one idea that fits and anything else is not christian, well then we have a problem. i'd be willing to bet that's not the exception.

you have to be willing to adapt the way you think the world should be to the way it actually is. in my experience, most of the people there could not. that says to me intention is not purely to help people, but help people conditionally.

What's the point of this? Are you telling me that you and the Kenyan village have the same belief system yet you live a pretty cush life and they have to sleep on a dirt floor, have no clue where their next meal is coming from and have to hope someone comes in and make the water around them suitable to drink? All because you were born in the U.S. and they weren't? You'd think God could just cut these folks some slack and throw some rain their way so they could farm and trade goods to thrive. What does God have against Kenya?

I don't have any problem with that. Although I wasn't necessarily referring to missionary work. Just selfless service in general.

But yes, I do agree it should be done out of selfless sacrifice for others and not for any sort of expectation or desire for self-congratulation.

You said you have never seen God delivering people from their daily hells.

My post was just saying that I have.

But those people have the same belief in God that you do. Probably more because they look to God to literally save their life everyday. Yet they continue to wake up in the same situation they were in the day before. God didn't build the well. You did. God didn't send you there. Man did. You shouldn't need God to get you to do things for others.

This sounds like something someone who didn't go to church imagines happens to assuage their own guilt

Then start trying to seek the Lord and live your life for Christ then you wont be offended. Seems like what the preacher preached about is exactly what someone like you needed to hear.

you need to look into compassion international. They do work around the world but through the local churches of that place so that the experience is local to them and other ideals aren't forced down their throats. my church is doing a big push for this now

And why do you need a church to profess your Love for God?

Maybe because the Bible mentions (numerous times) the importance of going to a house of worship and then worshiping together as a community? I'm not judging, I'm just sayin'.

Lol at people believing in some middle eastern magician from 2000 years ago.

I've got better things to do on sundays than try to appease some make believe guy in the sky.

Religion is for weak minded and naive people who are either too stupid to realize how ridiculous it is, or too afraid to face the reality that they will simply no longer exist when they die.
Enjoy your time on this earth to fullest. You shouldn't need religion to be a good person.
