You don't have to pay them all at one time, get that installment plan yo. Then pay a little and hope you get a return next year that covers what you owe.

Around 20K Fed/State due with the return. Then quarterly estimate due at the same time.

I enjoy paying quarterly since I was smart enough to own my businesses so that people can feel more entitled to free crap

Trick question. The real ballers pay quarterly.

real question, if you pay yourself, (as a W2 employee)as well as keep the quarterly profits for yourself, do you just prepay your quarterly with holdings, or do you pay your quaterly withholdings and also pay your estimated quarterly taxes?

I pay my with holdings only, but am considering paying quarterly as well on estimated profits.

Most of my friends in business do what they can to show as little income as possible, which is great if you don't plan on buying property anytime soon.

I love paper trails, all my CC bills, and utlites I pay with Check, as well as all monthly sales taxes and payments to the IRS.
I like that paper trail. Just me.

It's very little, I have owed them before, and the amount doesn't change that much.

Managed to keep it under 5 figures this year. Barely. So I got that going for me, which is nice. I guess.

do you think extensions raise the audit possibility at all?

Never filed an extension, when I have owed, I never pay the full amount, get an installment plan, pay a little and hope the next years return balances it out. Who knows if that happens this time, however I am thinking that will be the case.

Tax day is the 18th this year.

Thankfully, I appear to have hit it peetty much on the nose with my estimated tax payments. Will only have to pay less than $1k this year.
