Who was the last elected Louisiana representative to really bring home the bacon?

Reading the thread about the latest rocket being shipped from Michoud, got me wondering:
Who was the last really effective congressman or senator (or, I guess other elected official) who really brought big projects to Louisiana?
Florida, Texas and California seemed to get the biggest pork from the space program, but at least La. got Michoud. But has there been any big federal projects in the last couple of decades?
Heck, it seems like they couldn't even get enough ship contracts for Avondale to keep that place going.
I guess the infusions from Katrina, etc. might qualify in a way.

Who spearheaded the tax incentives for Hollywood to come here? That was bringing in some money.

No shite. I have a quite liberal acquaintance that was all for ended them. “Corporate welfare” and all. She actually thought that the state was PAYING to studios. Since she was liberal she like to use Duck Dynasty’s tax incentives as a crutch for her argument.
She finally understood about 6 months after the tax breaks were rescinded and saw movie production decrease.

Bollinger Shipyards got awarded a contract with the coast guard to build their sentinal class vessels. Mary Landrieu helped secure this contract potentially worth several billion dollars. Although Boysie Bollinger has always been an outspoken republican, he ironically campaigned heavily for Mary's re-election. Soon after Mary's loss, Bollinger was bought by Chouest.

Many of those Hollywood studio dollars are now over here in Ga, not too far from me at Pinegate Studios.

The saddest thing about Louisiana politics is what could have been. There was a time in the early 70s, when the most powerful men in Congress were all from Louisiana:
Russell Long - Chairman - Senate Finance Comm. 1/66 - 1/81
Allen Ellender - Chairman - House Appropriations Comm. 1/71 - 7/72
Hale Boggs - House Majority Leader 1/71 - 1/73
What did these men deliver for Louisiana ?

Yep, you've gotta love the batshit crazy notion that a person being able to keep more of the income he earns is "welfare" or that it's a payment by the state. It requires one to adopt the logic that your income belongs to the government and whatever they allow you to keep is simply a gift.

Jay Dardenne led the efforts to get the movie industry here. But of course the people of Louisiana are too stupid to realize how good he would have been as Governor and so now you’re stuck with the massive pile of waste that is JBE.

He needs to be shot. The state only gets back 23 cents or so on every dollar they give out and considering the state has given out over a Billion dollars it had become a big corporate welfare problem.

This is awesome. Jay Dardenne is the commissioner of administration for the JBE administration. He actively campaigned for JBE when he didn’t make the run off. The guy is a political hack, career politician.

This board became very against the movie credits. Even if it cost the state it brought jobs and positive exposure to Louisiana. God forbid this state get either of those especially positive exposure

The movie credits never had any long term effect in terms of permanent jobs or making this state more attractive to business. Once the credits dried up they simply hoppped to the next best situation.
