The fact that we all know who all six of these people are, gives you the answer. Michael by a mile.

Marilyn Monroe is actually a pretty good answer if you consider how often her image is re-used for stuff these days.

Other possible answers are guys like MJ. I think this kind of depends on how you define "celebrity" .. If you're talking strictly entertainers then you're probably done at MM, MJ and Elvis. But if you're talking purely influencers you can start to include people like Julius Caesar, Cleopatra, Jesus, Hitler (sorry), etc

Show this picture to a poor tribe kid in sub-saharan Africa who has never seen a TV, and I bet you $100 he knows it's Michael Jackson. That can't be said about anyone else in this thread except Jesus

Alexander, Caesar, Cleopatra, Genghis. It certainly wouldn't be a modern day entertainer.

Since the online definition for the word icon uses the name Jesus Christ, I’m going with him.

Probably so, although I wonder if MLK and Elvis will hold for future generations in remote parts of the world, and whether MJ's late in life weird shite will impact him.

Recency makes it tough. For example, I think MJ in sports is a good answer, but Ronaldo/Messi might exceed him for the present. Tiger/Shaq/Kobe had to be up there for a while, and in my youth, I'm sure plenty of kids abroad knew who Bo Jackson was.
