Got in northern Shaolin Kung Fu at 12. Did it for 20 years. Was a lot of fun and we had a variety of weapons. Did a lot of USKA tourneys. Went to the world championship in Orlando back in the 90's. Three day tournament. That was a blast. Pulled my groin muscle in semi finals against a guy from New York. Lucky for me he wasn't an a-hole and beat the crap out of me lol.

Wished we had Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the time. Would have loved to have learned that style.

I did. I wish I had kept it up. I am thinking about taking it up again but at almost 62 I am a little leery.

Black belt in Taekwondo at 11. Still can throw some kicks but really rusty haha. Ultimately learning the antiquated forms and testing burnt me out. I just wanted to fight.

I never heard of him. Which city is Jamestown close to?

He is in Baton Rouge, his school is off of College Drive on Jamestown. He created Han Mu Do. In the 80-90's was when he was doing a lot of the classes I believe, he son took over for him at some point, and I am sure they had black belt instructors. Although, it looks like he still does some instruction.

A couple of years of Tang Soo Do starting around age 12. Hated my sensei, he was crazy. Make a mistake, he would shout come forward and "receive your knot." Meaning come to the front, bow to him, and get a knuckle to the top of the head.

After saying frick all that, took Judo for a year or two, which I found to be much more effective for the few times I had to use self-defense.

I did Tae Keon Do as a kid. My son started BJJ, then I started about 2 years later. I’ve been doing it for 5 years now, both of us. I wish that BJJ was available where I lived when I was a kid. It’s a far more effective self defense technique, and it’s a great workout too. Lost 50lbs in the process.

I do the same.

I wish his brother had stayed and taken the dojo over.

Took karate for a little over a year but quit when I started playing Jr high football (football practice and karate class time conflict).

Boxed in the off-season in highschool.

My son has been training since he was 4 (he is now 16). We have traveled the country to let him compete (L.A., Vegas, Phoenix, Albuquerque, Denver, Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, and Indianapolis) it has been a lot of fun.

We don't get to travel as much now due to High school sports but we had a great time while we were.

Master Ki is a legend in my eyes in Baton Rouge. I only made it to blue belt, but it was special, because you knew you earned the belts you got with him. I still remember, during one of the test, my opponent landed what was one of the most perfect roundhouse kick to my abdomen that I am sure sounded like thunder to everyone watching us. Shame ALS took him, just about every time I pass down Airline I look through the brush to see his logo painted on back of building. I think it just about all faded a

I’m nearing retirement and was just running through some life history. Searched up Master Ki as I trained with him for a short time in 79-80 before going to work on a supply boat. Thought enough of him to drive 30 miles just to tell him I wouldn’t be there for a while and never saw him again. Still remember he was pulling weeds in front of his Dojang that afternoon. Didn’t expect he’d still be alive but sorry he had to go out like that

Eventually a black belt in Tang So Do 30 years later with my boy in Metairie.

Not surprised the duck go search led to the OT!

Started at 45 and got BB at 50! Never took another class after that day. My joints were not happy.

I did brown belt. Would not let you take Black Belt until you were 16. Quit at 15 and played football
