Yep....my Mother was a Nurse and I remember her screaming at me to quit moving before I broke it off in my butt....which could be an issue of the mercury...not to mention the glass!!! It is crazy to think about that now....
And yes, each orifice had it own color on the distal end so you didn't mix them up! Gross!

Oral thermometer bulb was long and skinny or pear shaped.

Rectal thermometer bulb was round, short and fat.

Also, I think they were colored differently, as was mentioned above, but I didn't read.

We had this coach that said he could actually feel when the temp was high. He would check the little girl's temp rectally (I think) with his finger. .... both holes are close enough to be the same temp huh???
