I dont think i will ever lose my north louisiana accent, i get reminded of it on a daily basis! Fact is, i dont want to lose it, it is part of me.
I do have a friend that moved to chicago for a year and came back speaking like a damn yankee.
I have another friend that changes his accent/ dialect every time he talks to someone new on the phone.
I am who I am, and Im not changing, bc Im not a mf poser

NOLA born and raised, generations deep. Gentilly was my growing up neighborhood. Lived in Chalmette about 7 yrs before we moved away in 1984. Since then we've lived in Iowa, KY, GA, and now FL. Never spoke yat like a ninth warder, or Cajun, but I had a NOLA accent that has drifted into no recognizeable accent mostly. Except when I go home. Then I'm back to my form of full NOLA-speak. My wife, from the Channel, is much the same.

Grew up in slidell, lived in BR for 5 years and now Houston for 7. People still tell me all the time that I sound like I'm from slidell and how sexy it is.

When i moved to ny I lost my southern accent, but when I would get drunk it would come roaring back. So ny friends thought I sounded country and br friends thought i sounded Yankee.

i had an ever slight southern accent growing up but it really only came out if I was in a completely relaxed setting or drunk.
Now i have no accent, though if I'm drinking and watching football, I'll scream at the tv and i sound like a redneck

I've totally lost my Vermilion Parish coonass accent.
I find that it's more about "cadence" of speech than the actual pronunciation of words. When I'm on the phone with family back home, I slip back into that sing-song Cajun style of speech. Emphasizing different syllables. Difficult to explain, I guess.
But whenever I come across someone with a surname like "Richard" or "Vincent," I automatically say "Reeshard" and "Van-sohn" and get strange looks.

I lost most of my cenla accent when I moved to Baton Rouge.

It definitely was at one time. Probably a few generations older than you.
I lost what non-yat NOLA accent I had over my time in the military. Probably became more of a Midwestern non-distinct accent that many develop over a military career.

I'm from Ascension Parish, so I never had that thick of an accent to begin with. AP, where accents go to die.

Yeah, that's called the absence of an accent if she is in one of the 4 largest cities. Suburban KC or STL is about as neutral an accent as you will find anywhere - though some STL folks have a Chicago/Milwaukee twang. If she is in the Southeast part of the state she will sound like she's from around Memphis. There is also a very thick accent in most rural areas. My kids make fun of me when I talk to my country cousins on the phone and slip into the accent I grew up with.
