Who on here has lost their regional accent?

A decade ago I sounded like I was from Baton Rouge (country I guess). Since then I have lived in NOLA and the accent has completely vanished. Now that I live in Upstate South Carolina I hear it everyday from fellow co-workers, who sound like they are from South Carolina, that I don't sound like I'm from Louisiana even though I grew up deeper south than SO Car. It's amazing how moving only 50 miles away for college will change the way you talk.
Anyway, Who else has this happen to? Did you find losing your accent helped in promotions at work. Meaning being able to communicate more thoroughly and not sounding like a complete moron from the "south". (sadly, how many people not from the South feel about southerners)
I'm not hear knocking anyone with an accent because most of my friends and family have that BR twang going on.

I have. I'm from Mississippi but have lived in Colorado and Hawaii the last 5 years or so. I have people back home tell me I don't have "any accent". I can't tell if that's a good or bad thing. I remember saying "howzit" (hawaiian way of saying hows it going) passing a guy back home and the guy looking back at me like I was crazy

My sister (no pics) has lived away from Louisiana for more than ten years. She has lost her accent but drops back into flawlessly it every time she comes home.

You'd be surprised how alike most port cities sound. Sure, there's regional dialect influence, but most port cities have more in common with their accents than their continental counterparts

That's funny my sister lived in Birmingham for about a decade and you can tell she sounds like she's from Alabama or Mississippi, especially after a few drinks.

I've made friends with people in NOLA that grew up on the West Bank or maybe even parts of Jefferson Parish east bank that sound like they can be from Philly, Baltimore or Queens.

I've been away for over 20 years, and I don't think I drop back into a flawless accent anymore... unless I'm drinking. A few beers and the accent comes back with a quickness.

I'm from Kenna brah. We don't lose anything. I have picked up a Down the bayou tongue since I've lived In lafourche.

I've lost my southeastern ky twang. I just sound like I'm from br now. Sometimes when I drink the eastern ky shows back up.

I lost mine several years ago. I've lived overseas and in Colorado for the past 10+ years.

I have, unfortunately, become even more Appalachian in my dialect than even what my original upbringing in North Alabama instilled in me. I soooouuund soooo gotdaayamn cuuuntry this shiiiyt aint even funneh.

I'm from North Louisiana- when i first moved to Baton Rouge people laughed at my country accent it was so strong. I feel like it's completely gone now, but I met a chick (IRL 8.7492) from SoCal while I was in Cabo last week and she immediately asked if I was from Alabama

I grew up on Long Island and talked like it. I went to college at LSU and within 2 years I caught myself saying a bunch of stuff with a southern drawl more often than not.
What's funny is now when I'm excited and yelling (like when LSU is winning) it comes out southern. When I'm pissed and yelling (like when LSU is losing or when I'm bitching someone out) it's straight Brooklyn.

So what do you speak? New Orleanian or Spurrier?
Also, what exactly is a Baton Rouge accent? I know black Baton Rougians sound like country NOLA people. Is it like Hawthorne from 870?

I definitely have...when I first moved to BR everyone could tell I was from New Orleans. Been here for 9 years and now when I tell people I meet I'm from New Orleans they usually tell me I don't sound like other people they've met from the city.
I didn't try to drop the accent but I guess it just happened over time. I most definitely didn't pick up the Baton Rouge country twang, just don't have that heavy NOLA accent.

I lived in the South for a few years when I was young and I was shocked at how thick my accent was when I watched an old home video. Don't even have a trace of a Southern accent anymore. I can't even do a good impression of a Southerner.

I grew up in South LA Cajun country. Plenty of flat, coonass accents around me. But I never really had it. I've always been told that I don't sound like I'm from South LA. I can do an impression of it that cracks up people like my in laws who aren't familar, but don't do it normally. Also helps that my grandparents were not from the area. My grandfather moved around running sugar mills and happened to land there when my dad was growing up. So the whole family doesn't have the accent.
