Bobby Torres is SDT’s uncle... Sydney III’s brother (attorney)

Saro Lane (lower St Bernard) is family land controlled by Sydney Iii... his personal house and Crevasse 22 /River House is basically an art museum and residence.

Nagin was ok before Katrina. I would not say he was great. We learned pretty quickly that running a monopoly isnt the same as being a great businessman.

Whoever said Pennington... he was too close to Morial who we were trying to get away from.

Mitch actually could have done well if he would have just been mayor instead of trying to be woke all the time..,

The people don’t have the stomach to do what needs to be done to fix the inner cities/ghettos.

New Orleans should be the convention destination for business education/conferences, it should be a center for historical tourism and the party capitol of the South, if not the entire nation.

100% this. Right now it's places like Orlando, Atlanta, and Vegas. Chicago and New York are losing ground every year because they're cold and a major PITA logistically (the inner workings of McCormick Place are nightmarish).

How did NOLA miss out? The ingredients are central warm location, decent airport, and big pole barn downtown. We have all those.

I lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina briefly. I always joke that once one gets over the twin span from Slidell, they've crossed into a South American country called Orleans Parish.

There’s no single person that can make a change. It’s takes the citizens in general. The leadership is a reflection of the people who put them there.

Tourists want to feel safe. New Orleans can't provide that.

And businesses are reluctant to expand with all the corruption.

The streets look intentionally cratered in many places - I get there are geological issues, but the city can't keep folks from getting merced by the bushel OR the streets maintained - how in the hell do we expect them to expand their tourism base? When corruption is Priority #1, that's what you will get until there is a radical change.

New Orleans is going the other way.

NOLA (before pandemic) still gets an absolute ton of convention business. Orlando, Atlanta, and Vegas are all bigger cities.

New Orleans struggles with conventions/meetings that are bigger than a single hotel, but not so big as to justify renting out large sections of the convention center. The types of conference that take up 2000 or so hotel rooms. We don't have any single hotel big enough for that, and a lot of groups don't want to have to split up among hotels.

In normal times they have a numerous conventions a week in NOLA. Go to anywhere in the CBD or along Canal for lunch and you are guaranteed to see people with lanyards. Not saying they can't get more, and bigger, ones, but to act like NOLA doesn't have tons of conventions is being intentionally dishonest.
