I didn’t realize Tuberville was from Camden. That about makes SA the kings of college football coaching with Bear Bryant from Fordyce and Barry Switzer from Crossett.

Are you talking about East Camden, where all the defense industry is located, or Camden proper?

There was an explosion there last year that left one person dead.

Regardless of where you park your trailer, it doesn't change the fact that Camden is a town in decline. When the IP Mill closed, it gutted the town. The defense industry in East Camden is the only reason it didn't die.

The current population is 10,147, expected to fall to 9,953 in 2025. For reference, when I graduated from CHS in 1982, there were 17K residents.

There are eight government housing slums dotted around the city, there is a lot of poverty.

When I go back to visit, it breaks my heart to see the decline.

On the bright side, real estate prices are cheap. The oldest continuously operating restaurant in Arkansas, The White House Cafe, is in Camden. It's pretty good. Woods Place has good catfish. I grew up with the people that own it, they are good folks.

If you like to fish, there is some damn good fishing in the oxbow lakes along the Ouchita River. White Oak Lake is only 30 mins outside of Camden, good largemouth, crappie and tons of bream. Deer hunting used to be good, I haven't hunted down there in a long time so I don't know how it is currently.

There isn't much to do after the sidewalks roll up at 5.

When I was the age to be running the streets, Camden had the Waffle Inn, the only place open all night. 2am on Saturday night it would always be filled with all the drunks getting food prior to going home.

Know some engineers that work at Lockheed Martin. The town itself is dwindling since paper mill closed back in the 1990’s. Coming from the north, the drive will suck from north of Sheridan to Camden. It’s 4 lane but a speed trap in Sheridan area and 60-65 mph speed limit.

It would definitely be tolerable to do what you suggest. I don’t recall what hotels are in the area, but there are plenty of camping areas I would think to set up some sort of RV.

Woods Place has good fish.

Big defense area. All the big defense contractors have a foot print there. Town itself is boring. Post Master’s is the “top” restaurant and it sucks.

Most people commute who are local. I stay in Magnolia if I have to stay more then 1 night there.

Anything south of Little Rock is pretty barren, ugly, poor, and just small run down towns. There’s really nothing to do.

LM and L3 are both putting high dollar SRM expansions in East Camden. That is like 500 job between both if I had to guess. That area is not booming but definitely not declining.

Yeah, depending on how many nights I'm actually down there, I am looking at buying a camper and just living in that while I'm down there. It's a 4-day a week job, so coupled with 4 weeks of vacation and all of the holidays, I think it would be tolerable.

I had to represent a client at a zoning hearing there some years back. Mayor at the time was pretty solid but city council was a clown show. Probably has regressed since.

The courthouse downtown has the cleanest public restroom on the planet. That's all I have.

Yea that seems easily doable. Especially if the money is right for you. While South Arkansas is not some hot bed of growth, depending on your likes and dislikes, there are plenty of areas to fish & hunt. Grocery stores nearby especially in Camden. So you wouldn't be out of any necessities that you are accustomed to.
