Disagree. Those two people could come sit in my living room right now and I wouldn't know them.

Congratulations, this may be the stupidest thing I've ever read on this site. Your awareness of who people are dictates how famous they are? You individually? Idiot.

It's not about your living room. Americans don't understand how popular soccer is around the world...look at the World Cup, its popular on every continent. Formula 1 racing is huge also.

Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.
Agreed. Only 1/50 U.S. citizens may know of them but to the rest of the world they are gods.
Eh, they're really popular in Europe, Africa, and Latin America, but they're basically barely above nobodies in China, Southeast Asia, and South Asia (where about half the world's combined population resides). Outside of Mexico, they're not all that in North America, either.
It's why I can buy that Jordan is more popular than those two: he is immensely more popular than those two in the most populated regions on earth.

You're wronger than a football bat.

Saving Trump and politicians... Michael Jackson was an easy one back in the day, in fact I heard about his death from Mongols on the Mongolian plains a few hours after his death, and after texting my friends back in the states they confirmed it.
Honestly, I'll go with David Beckham as the most recognizable, even over Jordan. Jordan has been out of the game for too long in order for youth to recognize him. Music ages better than sports, and Beckham is still doing his thing and modeling. Aside from Hanes commercials, how much do you see Jordan these days?
If Michael Jackson were still alive, he's an easy #1, but Beckham is idolized by every kid on every continent but North America... well save Mexico of course.

They're popular - not nearly as popular as the major basketball stars are, though. That's what I was trying to get at.
Jordan and Kobe and guys like that are demi-gods; great soccer players are mere celebrities, similar to how American basketball stars are in Europe and Latin America and Africa.

You guys really underestimate how big soccer stars are all over the world. Kids in the Middle East, Asia and shite Africa all know who Messi and Ronaldo are. Basketball might be chinas biggest game, but they do have soccer there as well.

I think it would have to be someone of LARGE physical stature like Shaquille.
You guys don't understand how easy it is to not notice a famous person when they have no entourage and are normal sized. I shared a couch with Paul Simon for 30 mins and had no idea who he was until he told me. I also sat next to John Stockton on a plane and it took me 20 mins to recognize him.
A person like Shaq will instantly draw your eye. Then you start thinking "who is that?"
You don't do that for soccer players. You don't do that for obama. (Without a secret service detail around him)
Got to go with Shaq.
