Got a non-daily driver 2012 Sierra 1500 4WD with 5.3L that has started making an oil mess in the driveway.
I suspect rear main seal or oil pan seal, maybe both, and looks like it’s been a problem for a while.
Before you state $350, anyone know what the going rate on this service is?

Rear main is 1000-1500 job. Mostly labor hours as the part is cheap.
Oil pan gasket you can do yourself. It’s messy though. Shop price is 350-750.
I know because Inhad same truck (work/fleet) with same two issues.

I like Siegen Car Care. Ask for Daniel (the owner). Great service, and more importantly…honest.
Having an honest mechanic in today’s world is about as important as having a forgiving priest or a good doctor.

I go to Neil's Automotive...very honest as well.
I have spoke to Daniel outside of his work and when Neil retires...that is where I will go next.

Marks no longer open on Saturdays anymore and that was our best day to get our vehicles worked on. There’s a place on Florida called Turbo Auto care and the guy there reminds me of a younger Mark. Hustles and does a very good job. Open on Saturdays also which is a plus.

I stand by this a million percent. This place is the best in BR by far. I don’t take mine or my wife’s (no pics) cars anywhere else.
I wish Daniel would get into tires. With his honestly, he’d shut down places like Chabills.

I’ve got a good, reliable and cheap mechanic in Bend, Oregon.
David & Clark on NE Seward.
Ship it there, they’ll hook ya up.

I second this emotion. I’ve been bringing my car to Mark for 25 years. He is an expert. Honest and fair and lays out your options well.

He was doing tires for a while. He stopped

I just got a set of tires from him in January. Was getting a bunch of other work done and was limited to Goodyears but he ordered and installed for me.

It's hardly ever the rear main seal itself, it;s the rear main plate gasket. Usually starts @180,000 miles. Same with the oil pickup tube o'ring. I wouldn't diy the pan without a good way of cleaning it. Even with regularoil changes the bottom piles up in carbon particulate.

And he's typically cheaper than all other places by a good bit

Well that’s good to know. He had stopped for a while.
