Who is the go to Mechanic in BR?
Posted by Roux57 on 3/15/25 at 11:35 am
Got a non-daily driver 2012 Sierra 1500 4WD with 5.3L that has started making an oil mess in the driveway.
I suspect rear main seal or oil pan seal, maybe both, and looks like it’s been a problem for a while.
Before you state $350, anyone know what the going rate on this service is?

Garbage lawn to beautiful Bermuda transformation timeline help
Posted by Roux57 on 3/8/25 at 2:26 pm
Current lawn is slap full of weeds and no telling what else. If I were to want to begin the transformation of my front yard what kind of timeline am I looking at? I would imagine I can begin the preparation now, but not sure when the appropriate time to seed would be. Looking at about 2700 sq ft
1. Glyphosate to kill everything existing
2. Scarify and rake up all the dead debris
3. Level lawn with top soil for anything greater than 2” and finish with masonry sand
4. Seed and fertilize (when should I do this)
5. Water twice a day for 30 days
6. Don’t cut lawn for 21 days
Looking at ordering 10lbs LaPrima or Royal XTD from Hancock seed. What fertilizer should I be using?
What steps did I miss?

Lawn edges sit much higher than the sidewalk
Posted by Roux57 on 3/5/25 at 5:39 pm
Recently purchased a (new to me) older home in BR. The lawn edges sit much higher than the sidewalk, as much as 3-4 inches in some places.
When I cut the grass, if I don’t raise the deck much higher, these edges scalp to dirt. I would prefer that all of my lawn edges be the same height.
What’s the most painless route to fixing this? Sod cutter, shovel & elbow grease, other ideas?
I also hate the thought of muddy edges for a while before it grows back in, but they’re just as ugly sitting so high and scalped.

What’s your lawn equipment arsenal?

For those of you that claim king of the hood for the way you maintain your lawn. What’s your lawnmower, weedeater, edger, aerator, dethatcher, etc etc?

In college one of my roommates had the smart idea to let a stray pit into our house that he found walking home from the bar the night before. When I woke up to let my little boston terrier out the pit immediately attacked. I wrecked that frickin POS...kicked it in the head with boots on as hard as i could, grabbed it by the throat, and then slammed it on its face into the brick sidewalk as hard as i possibly could and it scurried off down the street. I had never felt that kind of rage and adrenaline come over me in my entire life. I still get pissed off thinking about it.

re: Attending home inspection as a buyer…do or don’t?
Posted by Roux57 on 12/28/24 at 8:05 am
The house is 48 years old and just went through a pretty big renovation and that’s where my concern lies. However, when speaking with the inspector he beat me to the punch letting me know that despite how pretty the house is now he has his eyes peeled for anything and everything.
Aside from the general inspector I myself am a civil (structural) engineer for anything structural, I have friends that are licensed electricians and HVAC, another friend that’s in the roofing business that have all said that they would put their eyes on it if needed.

Thanks for all the replies, I’m off Monday when it’s scheduled so I’m definitely going to attend. My very good family friend is my realtor and she recommended him. Spoke with him today and we are on the same page.
Attending home inspection as a buyer…do or don’t?
Posted by Roux57 on 12/26/24 at 7:31 pm
When I bought my first home I did not, but curious if anyone showed up to the home inspection. Just went under contract on an older home and want to be sure that a very thorough inspection is completed and nothing is just brushed over.
