To answer the OP, I can't just name one. They all have their own unique way, that it is hard to call one the funniest.
The first stand-up I ever saw, when I was about 8 or 9, was Eddie Murphy Delirious. And I use to go around saying "Heeey boy! Heeeeeey boy! You look mighty cute in those blue jeans...."
So just because of that, I would name EM in that category. I also liked Rodney Dangerfield. George Carlin was funny as hell. I think Chris Rock has some funny standups. Dave Chappelle. I use to really like Bernie Mac "I ain't scared of you mother frickers!".

Kathy Griffin..... Just joking, seriously I tried to watch her stand ups before and I have no idea how anyone finds her funny. She fricking sucks. If there was a thread for not funniest comedian, I can honestly say it is her.

For me Chappelle is up there. But in terms of physical comedy, in his prime Jim Carrey is unsurpassed
