Yeah I don't think Oprah would get a 2nd look in many parts of the world
Obama is a good obvious one that I missed
I do think we may be over-rating American personalities a bit, though.
Lebron is way up there for sure.

Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have to be up there. Their brands are massive.

My husband would recognize Kim Jung Un, from his face and his weight. (Not many portly North Koreans)
Shaq hasn't reached Mohammed Ali's fame yet.
Just numberwise, whose faces do the Chinese, Indians, Nigerians and Indonesians recognize. Numberically, they do predominate.
(Queen Elizabeth in a scarf and regular raincoat pushing a shopping cart down the High Street of Newcastle wouldn't stand out, if she didn't have her guards and finely tailored clothes.) Put a hat on Trump, take makeup away from almost all female stars.....you wouldn't recognize them if they weren't wearing look-at-me clothes.

Yeah, it's hard to overstate the popularity that soccer superstars have in basically every other part of the world.

Twitter followers don’t determine recognizability
Broadly, yes it does 50m is a large discrepancy and that is good reason to think Obama is more recognizable

Oprah or Diana's two boys

If I had to pick, I would say it's Cristiano Ronaldo. Soccer is by far the world's most popular sport, and he is its most popular player. He has an insane amount of sponsorships and he has mass appeal to multiple demographics.
For the rest of the world yes, but I bet you he can walk around many parts the US and no one would know who he is.

Trump black?
You missed Shaq. Most people under 20 couldn't recognize Oprah, or quite possibly MJ.
Jordan is more popular than Shaq & it isn’t close. As is Lebron. Oprah too. Trump would be on the back end of the top 10.
The Jordan brand alone is worth in the billions. He’s an icon.

Just went and checked out the Twitter followers rankings. I didn't expect Katy Perry to be the most followed twitter account in the world.
Kim Kardashian is way up there as well.
Ronaldo has 70 million followers.
Taylor Swift has 86 million followers and follows ZERO people.

Maybe in some rural areas with few young people and no soccer program.
That being said, I live in a rural area and coach 10-year-old kids, and they sure as hell know

Oprah is broadcasted in 145 countries. She has her own network too. Bitch is popular. You don’t become a billionaire just doing work domestically

Shaq is internationally know, not sure if he is the most famous in the world. Lebron James, Tom Brady, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant all have international fame.
Elton John is up there.
Are the Kardashians famous around the world? That would be a same if so, but I have no idea how well know they are around the world.
President Obama was more well liked around the world than he was in the US.
Michael Jackson is probably the all time most famous person internationally. He did a lot of good for impoverished areas. Opera is up there. I would think Bill Gates maybe.
I guess Beyonce.. While she is talented, I have never really been a big fan of her music so I might be a little biased by hesitating to add her.
Tiger Woods, David Beckham... Lindsey Vonn can be put on the list maybe. What about the author of Harry Potter? Rowling?
I don't know enough about any actors who could be put on the list. Brad Pitt maybe? Denzel Washington?

I agree in that we, as Americans probably can't compartmentalize the "Who's Who." You think some 8 year old girl in Budapest is gonna know who the frick LeBron James is? No. I'm willing to bet she would probably know Oprah or even Madonna more than who LeBron or Muhammed Ali are.
You have to think big picture. You think people in Mauritania know anything about American superstar basketball players? frick no. They sure as hell know Michael Jackson, Oprah, And Queen Elizabeth are.
Who's the world's best cricket player?? Exactly.

For Americans, it'd be Trump or Jordan-- decades in the public limelight, large global brand names, and multiple vectors of being famous.
GLobally, either The Pope or The Queen.
