How old are your houses? Is this a Southern thing? I kinda remember those when I was 5 or 6 in hallways but that was 30 years ago. I go into houses from the 60s out here and in Cali all of the time and have never seen that besides in garages.
ETA: Not hating, its is just odd because I haven't seen that since I was a kid and all of you seem to have them.

I have the cord hanging right at my entrance way inside. No one has ever walked into it, nor do I ever notice it. Strange now that you mention it that its not noticed, ever

I have a $400K house (6 years old) and yes, I have strings hanging from the attic door. Actually I have two attic doors in my house.
