That dude, Mike, that worked there was nice. He was kind of handicapped.

I believe he did. I know he was big in CYO back then. They lived a few houses down from us.

Yeah, me too, we've discussed this before. I played for The Riveroaks Bengals pee-wee, Jr and Senior so 4th grade through 8th grade. The junior team under coach Sonny and Johnny Garofalo won the city championship most years. One year we scored like 300 points and only gave up a safety. I feel like the coaching I received in 5th and 6th grade was the best hard core old-style coaching I ever received, even better than High School. I can remember we'd open every game with a 24 dive and dare teams to stop us and they couldn't. We'd run these inside traps that were just way advanced for that level and broke teams. It was just superior conditioning and coaching. The fat guys would run laps in Coach Johnny's fireman's gear to lose weight before the initial weigh in every year. None of the crap we did would be allowed now-puking-bull in the ring-punishment laps-salt pills-lack of water-no breaks in August etc. I believe we beat the South Baton Rouge Rams for the city title . The next year we lost in Memorial Stadium to The Shenandoah Broncos when my best friend Ronnie had a compound fracture of his forearm in the first half. I remember battling 2 kids named Broussard (later USL kicker) and Ferguson that played for the Broadmoor Falcons for all those years but seeing them and being friendly at Skate City or Fun Fair Park. The best opponent I remember was Pierre Perkins of the Westminster team. I loved every second of it.

My post was confusing. One year our BREC games were played at Woodlawn.

I did go to to Woodlawn though. 1989-1993.

I was a Bronco from ‘78 to ‘82. Used to always come down to playing the SBR Rams for the championship it seemed. They had some big boys and some serious athletes on the Rams back then.

Ok 6 years before you. 83.

We always played at Memorial Stadium and practiced at Forest Park.

I didn't graduate from Woodlawn, but I had so many friends there (84) I was invited to the reunion, lol. They thought I went there. I knew almost everybody in the classes of 83 and 84. Most of the football kids had played at some point for the Broncos or Bengals.

You probably know who I am and whom I dated back then too. I always hung around Dennis Brown.

I remember being at SE Jr High 78-79ish and we'd wear our Bengals jerseys and the Broncos would wear theirs on game week and we'd have this in-school rivalry with the Broncos. And some kids played for the SE Jr High team and wondered why we preferred BREC but there was no comparison as far as brotherhood. The rivalry was the old school variety-not the shitty 2022 hatred variety, more of the old school shite-talking variety as we were all friends.

Didn't the Bengals practice at Parkview elementary around that same time period?

The Southeast Jr. High football and basketball teams were really bad. I played for basketball for Southest 78-79.

You and I were definitely friends or acquaintances I think. I rolled his house with some other guys the day he signed with LSU. Dennis was a good dude. Jeff Purvis was my boy, RIP. But really anybody in the 84 class was likely to be my friend. I dated lots of Woodlawn girls, including a "Ms Woodlawn" in your class lol. She had man hands though. I dated a bunch of girls in the 83 class. Fought above my weight class.

I remember Jeff. You know one of my ex's for sure. Her brother played for Woodlawn in 82. Dennis is still a cool dude. Had a lot of fun hanging around him.

I think that may had been Jamie from my year but it's been only 39 years since then so my memory maybe wrong.

From my picture, can you tell me if you were on the team that I played on? That was the fall of 78. We lost only to the falcons in the regular season and in OT in the toys for tots bowl.

On another note, my stepsons played in SLYFA from 2005-2011. It was modeled after the BREC program of the 70s.

Eta: never mind. I just read more. You’re older than I am.

I know I have to know both of you guys.

I didn’t play BREC football, but I went to school with virtually everybody on the Bengals.
