Perkins Road Eagles may have been the most diverse BREC team in the 80s.
Yep. Even in the mid-70s the Eagletes (pee-wee team I guess?) were also well integrated.
Football, especially pee-wee football, doesn't give a shite about race. One of my favorite takes on the issue was from the late Bill Curry. Now it wasn't nearly this serious or important. It was just pee-wee football. We weren't out to change society, we just wanted to kick the arse of you other little frickers in the different colored jerseys lol.

And on the subject of bussing and race, there isn't a guy in this thread (black or white) who was not negatively affected by Judge Parker's decision by the time we went to high school.
Preach it, brother.

Played on the Falcons 5th-7th grade. We practiced at Sherwood Elementary. Played (most? all?) of our games at Westdale Junior High. City co-champions in 1980. (still have the trophy, lol). Coach Alexander. His son was the running back and built like a tank. I had to try and tackle him in a drill and he proceeded to run my skinny arse over. We had a blast though. I remember the stick em too. Also we would play our games in the morning and the coaches would walk around while we were stretching and stick smelling salts (ammonia) by our noses to wake us up. lol. Anyone remember Stacy Dennis? He was our quarterback.
I probably know you; I remember Stacy Dennis, plus a bunch of others from those teams! Coach Alexander is my dad and Brian my brother.

I played with those guys as pee wee falcons (Sherwood forest days). Brian and Morris Alexander were stud football players.
Thanks!

I think I remember playing against Stacy Dennis at Trafton. Want to say he was their QB in ‘88 or ‘89. Before him Todd Kinchen played QB for Trafton against us probably in ‘86 I think. Fastest white or black player I ever played against. He basically hurdled me on a sweep and nobody else got near him.

On Li Rocchi I presume. Don't ask me how I know. Bronco's here, green and white jerseys. Franklin Press across the front was the sponser.

This thread brings back great memories. I was on the early 1980’s Riveroaks Bengals teams then the merge with Broncos in 86, then changed colors to Blue & Orange in 87. Practiced at Riveroaks Elementary (my school and neighborhood), then we moved practices to BREC Forest Park several years later after the merge with Broncos. We could never beat the SBR Rams in regular season or the Toys For Tots Bowl in Olympia, but dominated just about everyone else on the schedule. Packers were always terrible, Perkins Road Eagles were always tough, Baker Buffs were good too. Bandits were solid. The old green Broncos were a great rivalry. Who was that Blue & Yellow team (not Rams)? Wedgewood?? Coach Ikey Villar took us to other nearby towns like Dutchtown to play other exhibition games, so much fun!

I played on several teams in the BREC league. The Central Bobcats, Bellingrath Eagles and I got “recruited” to play for the Riveroaks Bengals in 1979. Had an absolute blast in those years. My younger cousin played and was best friends with Bucky ba I in those days and in high school.
Knew Mr. Johnny Garafola well as his wife babysat my kids for years. It was tragic what happened to their son. They are great people
