7-9 year olds. Uniroyal Bucs for life bitches. Suck it Sherwood Hawks. We practiced at Broadmoor High and played games on Saturday mornings at Memorial Stadium.
The next year, family moved to the hood in Brownfields and played on the Mean Machine in the same league. We had a half dozen black kids (and thought nothing of it) and a coach who rode a motorcycle and wore a naked lady t-shirt to practice. The starting RB was decided by a foot race from "here to my motorcyle and back". First 15 minutes of every practice was gladiator level Oklahoma drills. We practiced at St Isidore and played games at Westdale Middle off of Claycut.
Other teams were the Baby Bengals, Eaglettes, and maybe the Bears??
That year on the Mean Machine, we had red jerseys, just like the Hawks. We had black helmets, but when we played it was a cluster frick of epic proportions.
To this day, if I drive by Memorial Stadium, I remember the smell of that spray on stick em and fresh cut grass. Best day of the year was late summer and going to the Athletic House on Tom Drive to gear up.

1980s YMCA Clique for life.
We played in the fields behind the Christa McAuliffe Center, when the jokes about her tragic accident witnessed by the world were still au courant.

Damn, that's right. Falcons and as previous poster mentioned, the Broncos. It seems like every kid in Broadmoor and Sherwood was on a team. I believe one team was primarily Shenandoah as well?

You would've played against my brother. For years, I could not remember how our Dad's knew each other (other than the obvious). I think I do now. He coached in BREC as well.

Didn't play for BREC. Played for the ARIFL (Amite River Intermediate Football League).
Denham Springs Packers. It was on those middle school practice fields that I learned how to somehow catch a water stream jetted out of a bug sprayer while getting cussed out. My stint was more in the Early 80's though.

I was 8 yrs old in 1975. By any metric, no one my age falls into the boomer generation. Take off your little mittens and use your fingers if you need help with the math.
