Learned by having the truck keys tossed to me and told to "get after it".

Very fond memory.

I learned to shift a standard in a buddy's Javelin. And on the other side of the retro-coin, I owned a '62 Valiant, with the typewriter automatic.

Yep, only real encounter was on a '54 Ford F100. Was a blast to drive.

Learned on cub cadet and old ford tractor when I was about 10-12 or so.

Dad had one on an old Ford Falcon station wagon, never got to drive it though. That Ford straight 6 was bulletproof.

I seem to remember doing that. Come off throttle real quick and then shift?

Forgot about having to pop the hood when the linkage hung up. I got grease on a lot of shirt sleeves because of that. I had to change the tube in the column a couple of times. Pure pain in the arse.

My first truck was my dads old Chevy Custom Deluxe. 3 on the column. No power steering or AC. Pull air vents on each side by the floorboard. I felt like I could drive anything after driving that monster.

All us old timers could do that but I'm not sure I remember where reverse was. Pull and down for first. Up for second. Push and down for third. I guess reverse was pull and up?

learned how to drive on a 1967 Chevrolet pickup. I was fourteen and it was tough to press the pedals, shift and drive at the same time.

Standard shift on the column. H shift pattern.

So did I on a Chevy 67 C10 and it’s called 3 on a tree

I taught my 15 year old high school girlfriend how to drive it too. She got to be pretty smooth. She wouldn’t grind the gears.
This news does not grind my gears.
