Any time a group of citizens would like to form a smaller more efficient government I'm for it. Tack on the fact that they want better public schools and it would be a boon to EBR and good for the whole parish. I will not denigrate those people who disagree. I just believe there views are not growth oriented.

That's one of the main arguments. Maybe elect a better representative that can get more money funded to the area as apposed to a total split.

If anyone thinks those jack legs telling me it won't raise my taxes, end up in court and be a general debacle they are whistling Dixie.

but I'm not sold on their financials. There are some shady characters heading up the St. George efforts and their budgets don't seem to add up.

Amen. I'm not against the betterment of the area I have called home for 23 years, but I'm not sure I've seen a plan (yet) that is capable of achieving this.

Why would be again it is the real question? It will increase property values and quality of schools in South BR

You should probably rephrase your question to "who here that live in the proposed St George area are against it?

Obviously if you live in the BR city limits you don't want to see it happen. In the end though they don't have a say-so in the matter, so their opinion is really irrelevant

I'd be for just getting a damn school district like they wanted in the first place.... I'm in St George right now and will be moving in March to a home in a nicer area of St George. I don't necessarily see the need for the split completely.... but I could do w/o paying for private school

God you people dream big. I'm against it, because I DON"T want BR to become Denham or Central.

So you are fine with the status quo in the the EBR school system?

And to the guy that's wants his niece to go to BRHS. What makes you think she'll get in? It's a lottery system. Are you banking on her education with a lottery ticket?

Doesn't matter what the BR City folk think - they can't vote! Go St. George!

Scruffy isn't. Anything that screws over some governmental entity is awesome and BR's government needs an enema.

How close is this to happening? Cause if it's close then BR may want to throw them a bone to save their tax base. I think there are some constitutional issues but I mean come on, it's fricking Louisiana, when have laws mattered when it came to politics.

That was attempted first, it failed, and was told that you have to have your own city before you can have your own school district, hence where we are now

EBR school system is one of the worst in the country, definitely needs some new blood and life. I just don't think drawing an imaginary line through the city and creating a new, underfunded district magically solves the problems. Like I said, I'm not against change, I just want to see a developed plan I can be sold on before I go pushing for a new city.

I am all for it.I want my money to be spent maintaining where I live instead of building something for people in areas I would not be welcomed in.

Yea all the middle class parents will be able to save between $5,000-$20,000 a year depending on how many kids they have. More money will be spent in the parish as a result. People's quality of life will rise. More business will choose to move to the area.

The result will mean Baton Rouge will have to elect smarter leaders to reign in their own issues. If they don't then it will be their own fault and not St. George. St. George has covered for them long enough.

Neither do the St. George organizers, apparently. I actually want it to happen, just to see the inevitable shite show when taxes skyrocket.

No. They were just told they wouldn't approve school district in an unincorporated area.

IMO, they should go revisit this issue. Forming the city just doesn't do anything good for the region, other than a good school district.
