This would be me

Everyone here who says they want to win would change their mind if they actually did. Would you want to give up everything you have now including any good relationships you have with family and friends? All that would change even if you didn't want it to. You'd have to hire bodyguards, worry about your children's safety, deal constantly with people wanting your money. Not worth it to me.
i dont get this. i can't name a single big jackpot winner. athletes/actors dont have their children with secret service watching them every second. live in a nice area with other rich arse people and blend in, not like im gonna bling out my yeti tumbler in 24k gold showing off my riches. an intelligent well balanced person can easily live a great life after winning a jackpot.

Screw that. If Justin Bieber and the Kardashians can handle 50+ million more or less overnight plus the instant fame without getting kidnapped or doing something fatally stupid, I think I can manage it somehow

Well I don't want to live the life of a Justin Bieber or Kardashians
And I never said I wouldn't want to win a powerball jackpot but I would not want to win THIS one.

Maybe that's why so many previous winners have experienced problems. Most of the folks buying lottery tickets don't qualify as intelligent or well balanced.

And your logic is silly. If you "only" won, say, 25 million, your eighth cousins and girlfriend from fifth grade would still be coming out of the woodwork.

I'm sure all the women would love me then...

You're right .. Just give me the five numbers without the powerball
Posted on 1/9/16 at 3:07 pm to threeputt
Somebody over 50 would spend it the "best". Like a 60 year old grandma who is already successful and well-adjusted could improve a lot of lives. Whereas your typical OT baller would just use it as a coke and hookers supplement to his even-greater income.

Wtf are you talking about there's a ton of people who are worth over $500 million and are tremendously happy and secure.
Posted on 1/9/16 at 3:12 pm to SirWinston
But it's differnet if you earn it instead of winning it
Posted on 1/9/16 at 3:12 pm to Lsupimp
You guys are huge pussies I swear to god - it must suck to not believe in your ability to adequately manage $500 million and enjoy an amazing life for you and your close family / kids. Sorry that LeBron James apparently has a higher IQ than you do.

Oh I can manage it but would rather not but up with all the BS associated with winning this powerball jack pot
Posted on 1/9/16 at 3:15 pm to threeputt
It would be a blast - I can't understand how anybody would feel differently.

Sure, until everyone you've ever known starts asking for a handout...
Or one of your friends wife gets sick and needs money for medical bills, then hates you when you don't pay...
Or your friend who's been trying to start his own business for years asks for you to invest...
You help out one of these people, everyone is going to expect the same treatment. I'll tell you this. If I win, I'll be out of the state in 3 days.

More like half that.
~254 million after fed and state taxes.
I've said it before, but these threads really highlight how lotto winners go broke with the fricking quickness.
People are dreaming about winning 254 million and their stated plans are to spend like they won a billion.
shite, I just did some rough calculations and if my office pool hits and we don't split with any other winners, we would each get about 11 million after taxes. That's a lot of fricking money. It's also a long way from frick you money. I'm in my mid 20's. 11 million isn't going to last 70 years without serious restraint and sound management. If we won and I went out and bought everything I've ever dreamed of (vehicles, property across the country/globe, baller level season tickets for all of my teams, etc.) I'd be broke in less than 3 years. My net worth would still be high with all the property, but the cash reserves would be tapped.
The rich and famous and titans of industry who ball out of control their whole lives are able to do so because they generate this kind of income consistently over a long period of time. They don't hit big once and retire.
Say you go ahead and get a 3% rate of return on the 254M principal and you only live off the interest (and you don't give a dime to any family/friends/charitable causes). That's about 6.5 million a year after taxes. You now how much property taxes and insurance on millions of dollars worth of property across the globe would be? That's not even accounting for all the upkeep and maintenance and other various expenses that come with remotely managing several 6 figure properties. You'll still have the principal, so you will still be stupid rich, but stupid rich people more often than not spend money like they are stupid rich. Good luck resisting buying that mega yacht, or that G6, or that million dollar Ferrari when you know you have hundreds of millions in the bank. Eventually, like every single lotto winner before you, you will start to tap into that principal. You'll inevitably want to buy access to people, things, clubs, etc that a few million a year in disposable income doesn't buy.
TL;DR: People in these threads act like acquiring 254M one time means that they can live the billionaire life.

Wait , What?
I'd do fine. I bought tickets for sure. I run a business, have a family and already made my bones.I'm past the self-destructive danger-zone. At not real impressed or moved by money. I'm just speculating on the type of person likely to "use" the money most constructively. I'm an established guy, I've made my bones, I'd no exactly what to do. I'm talking about the vast Kardashian Armies that would squander the shite out of it and wonder wtf happened in 10 years.
