I quit after 20 years and it's been 3 months. I've tried the patches and gum in the past with little success. I told my Dr. I wanted to quit and he suggested Chantix, but also warned that it could cause some pretty crappy side effects. He suggested a mild dose of Welbutrin to take the edge off. I took the Welbutrin for the first 60 days and it did help...as in no one died, I didn't gain 50lbs, and I didn't grind my teeth down to the gums.

I smoked from ages 16-24. After many attempts at quitting, I finally stopped cold turkey 2 years ago. I just woke up one day and decided I didn’t want to do it anymore.
My main advice is to stay away from drinking for a few weeks. Your judgment will be compromised you will probably have cravings. I also recommend not making a huge deal out of it to others. Every time I tried to quit, told all my friends, and made a big thing out of it—I failed. This is because at the end of the day I was just looking for a pat on the back. The one time I just shut-up and did it, I was successful.

I smoked for close to 40 years. Quit several times only to start again Thought the patches were the cure-all but they turned into a reason to sneak. I woke one morning, coughing, hacking, etc... said enough! Haven't touched a cigarette since. That's been about 15 years ago. You'll quit when you want to..
God luck.
God luck.

I've been smoking for 19 years. 1 carton per week.
This costs me $100 per week (wife smokes too).
But we're quitting. It's a battle each day.
I realized how much $$$ we're throwing away.
I realize how bad my lungs are and my sinuses and all the other health effects.
Plus my two small boys hate it.
But it's a daily battle. I enjoy about 4-5 cigs per day.
Oh .... we're using the E-Cig.

Chantix will help you quit. I strongly recommend it. Its pretty amazing stuff.

I started running/working out on a daily basis and just kind of slowly phased them out.
I only smoked about a pack a week and mostly on the weekends while fishing/hunting/drinking.

I've never tried to quit, not really. I'm in the grip - to be sure - but I truly like to smoke. I like what it does to my voice and I like the taste, especially after dinner.
It's time to give quitting a run though. My primary motivation is that it's becoming a pain in the arse to be a smoker. I'm a clean smoker, I don't litter, I move away from groups, wash hands after, but I find myself feeling ostracized.

Hardest part for me was driving and in mornings with coffee. I drank my coffee black, after I quit I had to start adding cream and didn't drink near as much coffee. I literally hated driving for about 2 weeks after I quit. Also I quit several months before hunting season. Chantix is what I used.

I quit smoking pot and the withdrawals almost killed me

Pneumonia did it for me.

The people I've seen that claim to have gone cold turkey have the best success rate.

I'm on chantix right now. It really is an amazing drug

I started using an e-cig and within a day or two was using it exclusively. About a month and a half ago I got really drunk and the next morning woke up feeling like shite. Probably took a dozen pulls all day and the next morning said frick it and I haven't had any nicotine since.

Chantix for about three to four weeks. First week, smoked as much or more than normally. Second week (dosage upped), the craving simply was not there. When the craving came back a couple weeks later I stopped taking the chantix and just fought through the cravings.
Didn't have any crazy dreams, suicidal thoughts ,etc. And I was taking ambien most nights.
I was a smoker for 20 years, and was averaging about 2+ packs a day when I quit. It wasn't easy, and I still want a cigarette. I smoked a marlboro red while at the bar a couple weeks ago, first cig in over a year, and haven't had one since.

cold turkey.
When i graduated college i said that was it. I carried a big bag of candy in my truck. Mostly jolly ranchers.
When i felt like i had to smoke i would smoke a joint.
its been 14 years since. Haven't smoked a cig since and don't smoke the joints either...

Bought a vape pen/e-cig deal
Now I'll have a cig or two when I go out, but thats it. After being a pack a dayish smoker for 7-8 years.
In fact unless I'm hammered cigarettes are disgusting to me now

Do you have an SO?
If so, ask her if she will give you a bj everyday you don't smoke for the first 3 weeks. Assuming she doesn't smoke, she will gladly except the offer. I've never taken chantix, but this worked very well for me
