Knowing someone from a country who lives in America doesn’t mean you know shite about culture.

I don’t care if he knows a thousand.

Nothing to do with wealth. I have been traveling extensively since college. Anyone can travel...if they truly want to, regardless of what they say about monetary constraints.
Time is a bigger constraint than wealth, IMO. I can take long weekends as much as I want (we don't have any limit on PTO), but putting together enough time to go abroad is harder. But it's doable, and if you get 2-4 weeks a year where your job lets you truly check out during that time, that definitely opens it up for anyone on any budget.

I've traveled internationally on a sporadic basis but hadn't traveled abroad for a long while until recently. Wife and I have since done trips to 9 countries in the last 18 months or so, and we're sort of like "why the hell haven't we been doing this more"?
I'm not a shoestring budget traveler, but you can go abroad for pretty cheap if you want, and once you get used to the hassle of it and get your stuff in order (passport issues, global entry, mileage/status/etc.) the scope of it isn't nearly as much of a burden.
I don't blame people who spend 10 days in Disney or Alys for 8k-10k, and maybe it'll make more sense for us to use our time down there eventually, but might as well venture out while you're relatively young.
Well said.
I set up flight alerts and get cheap flights abroad and we stay in hostels. Even the higher end ones are fairly priced. In Porec and Prague the hotels are affordable.
Then you have Central America, which can be dirt cheap. I've gone to Belize for cheaper than I could've gone to anywhere in the US that required a flight. And we stayed at a really cool place.

Me. I've just never had any urge to fly on a plane for a million hours to go see something that America does better
This is a sad mindset to have

8k-10k,
could live pretty comfortably for almost a year in Phuket for that

he's probably trolling but if he's not, I don't really want him going to the same places I go anyway

Not so much this day in age, when you have large areas full of certain cultures

Just a heads up - the Canadian dollar is insanely weak right now - 1USD is 131CAD. I just got back from Whistler/ Vancouver and my money went a long way. Exchange rate considerations should be a factor for novice travelers - they can make or break how you feel about the vacation. Look at where your dollar spends well while choosing a destination.

Venezuela is a shite hole. Has the potential to be a very wealthy country due to resources but the commies in power won’t let the people breathe. Sad to see.
Venezuala could be one of the coolest places on Earth if it weren't for that regime.
Absolutely beautiful terrain, great coastline, abundant natural resources, cool local culture, good local food, etc.
frickin' commies.

that's a pretty damn strong rate for there, the USD has taken a pounding there for a long time, maybe it's the brexit

If you do Disney for that much, you screwed up.

So did I . What a nightmare. I had my 16 year old daughter with me too . Painful.

I was just in London this past week and it was .75USD to 1 pound. Not great but certainly not as bad as 2 to 1.

You'd rather struggle to move around some historic monument next to 4000 Asians with 1 million power zoom lenses in a third world country.
More evidence that you don't know what you're talking about and your view of travel is flawed.
