I have been fired. I was hired to turn sales around for a company in my area of expertise. The President apparently wanted a “yes” man instead of a person to actually change things. As an outside sales manager, I could only change the strategy and procedures in the sales and customer service department. I needed the President to lead the charge on the culture change that was needed throughout all levels of the organization to truly turn things around. She would not do that, and I would not back down and be her pet, so she fired my butt after about 9 months. Best thing that ever happened to me. Right after that (2002), I started my own company. It’s still thriving today.

Never been fired. Been laid off once. That was no fun, but the sacked our entire department and send it to India. Worked out. I had been doing the same thing for 16 years and a change of scenery turned out to be a great thing.

You’re not living if you’ve never been fired.

Dinky college job - didn’t show up because hungover.

One job - was lied to in hiring, shite environment, they found out I was looking and got the cut. Was a blessing. I wanted to kill most people there.

Got fired from a kitchen job when I was like 22 years old.

In my defense if that manager didn’t want to be called a cocksucker he shouldn’t have been acting like one.

Before or after the union ended? Wasn't there a strike around that time in BR?

IIRC that was Kroger. I certainly wasn't part of big grocery organized labor in the 11th grade.

I was working for Academy sports out of highschool. Was on the night crew restocking.
During our break I googled Chuck Norris jokes and printed them to entertain the crew.
I threw them in the trash afterward. Some old bitch on the day crew dug in the trash. Opened the papers. Found a few cuss words and called HR.
They saw that it was my login and I printed it and fired me. I had been there 4 years.

Fun fact: the guy who was forced to fire me became my employee 12 years later and got himself fired for theft.

I was fired from my job as a manager at Eckerd Drugs in '84. However, a manager was nothing more than a stock clerk with a set of keys and the safe combination.

Because the workload was nearly impossible to maintain, there were constant "work parties" in which managers from across the city would converge on one location to work their assss off and get a store "back in shape."

Basically, Eckerd's worked you to the point of exhaustion, then fired you when you could no longer keep up. There were 3 - 4 old war horses who managed to stick around, but turnover was otherwise rampant in the 80's.

I was fired from LSU UREC for less than a day when I was a sophomore. Missed a mandatory training session and the grad student who was my manager cut me.

The night before my flight back to school after winter break had been cancelled due to a snowstorm and the wings icing up. After 3 hours sitting on the plane at the gate and after midnight, I had to have my mom come pick me up. Caught a flight out the next morning.

Needless to say, I was pretty pissed reading the email the following day after that ordeal. I laid into the guy and he backed down.

I learned too late in my career that if you play your cards right, you can walk away with a stash. This was after I'd laid off numerous resources over the years where the big corps we worked for gave them generous packages.

In 2012, this finally worked for me. I was laid off from Suntrust after my VP boss retired and the vultures came for my team of about 30 resources, but they didn't want me. A generous package later and my house was paid off and I had another job in a week. Thanks Suntrust.
