I was laid off months back. Had money saved though so I've been surviving but I've also been keeping a tight budget. I am excited I may have just found a job in another industry.
Place I worked for probably laid off 20 to 30% of their employees. They have also cut tons of hours in the office and the shop. Machinists who used to work 60 to 70 hours a week to survive (they didn't make much $/hr) were cut to 35 hours last week.

My previous company closed down the Denver office in June. I was offered to relocate to headquarters in the Dallas area, but turned it down and took severance package. They were not offering a raise, promotion, bonus, or any sort of incentive other than to keep my position and paycheck as it was.
It was a stressful gamble to voluntarily stare indefinite unemployment in the face, but the gamble paid off as I had an offer letter from my current company before my last day at the previous company. Ended up having off 2 weeks in between jobs and turned out being a great decision on my part to stay here instead of move to Dallas. I only had 7 days to make the decision too. Talk about a sleepless and stressful week, wow.
ETA: I lost my Senior title, but am getting paid just a tad bit more than I was at my previous company with Senior title. Hopefully it'll work itself out sooner than later. My current manager and higher ups know I was previously at a Senior level. It'd be nice to get it back this upcoming annual performance review.

I have had to let go a few of my offshore personnel. I hate doing it, especially this time of year
I hear Lafayette/Broussard/Youngsville are starting to look like a ghost town where all those oil and gas offices and shops are.

Driving on 90 during rush hour must be a lot lighter than it used to be. Probably affecting a lot of the local businesses like Field of Dreams.

traffic is just as bad as ever, we are still a ways from "ghost town" but $35 for an extended period of time will do it

Our profits are up due to lower transportation costs. Larger bonuses for upper management because of the profits. Sadly,

Everyone is effected by this who's in the industry. It's been like this before it will get better.

Man, you must be super awesome. Also, anyone who has been in or around the O&G industry for a period of time, knows there are ups and downs. This, obviously, is a pretty decent down time.
Someone earlier mentioned that they knew someone high up at Chevron who things this will last for 20 years or so... That is an impossibility. You look at supply and demand, you look at spending (CAPEX) on new projects, etc. Nothing is being spent and no new projects are being started. Which means, there will be another "boom" once the market and economy feel the sting of the no spending down turn.

A consultant in Houston, but not O&G related......BUT, H-town goes as does the O&G industry though less affected than past years due to diversification in industries.

I've been one of the fortunate ones and have not been affected greatly. Nearly everyone around me has been laid off and all have taken much larger pay cuts than me so I count myself lucky. Both my immediate manager and country manager were released today. Ive had to let go of nearly half of the people who report to me.
I've been around the industry for 25 years and this is the worst decline I've been a part of.

The people who say they aren't affected just don't know it yet. I don't work in o&g directky but I supply a lot of companies. So yes business has dropped off. In Houma a lot of people have been laid off. People are spending less money.l across the board at places like restaurants. Things can dry up quick.
