My FIL works for an oilfield service company, he told me today that they are announcing their 1st round of layoffs tomorrow. He's already been told he's safe

My family exists because of O&G, but society evolves. People say "O&G won't 'run out' for hundreds of years." I'm sure it won't but better technologies will replace it. After all, sailing ships were replaced by better technology though we never ran out of fricking wind.

I have no idea. Not an economist.
Just saying that I am doing great with how oil prices are. Just wish there was a balance so I didn't have to see La go in to that late 80s/90s shitstorm.

I don't understand how it could be that bad for Laffy when there are tons of jobs in LC that Laffy people can drive over and do. Billions of dollars in development and all of that labor has to come from somewhere.

I don't know how bad it can get. Again, not an economist.
Just figure that losing the amount of jobs projected will put us in the 20% range. That is a crazy amount of unemployment, Greece level type stuff.

Like I said, there will be thousands of jobs for the boom happening in LC. Why can't the laid off Laffy hands come do some of these jobs instead of trucking people into man camps from other states?

I'm a sales rep for a welding and gas industrial supplier. Our stores in south Louisiana have seen about a 20-30% reduction in sales. Luckily here in Alex we have a lot of industrial manufacturing and we have had a 20-30% increase in sales. So the company is solid, just waiting on oil and gas to pick back up.
